Want to put on another bbl.
« on: February 19, 2009, 09:42:27 AM »
The best I can tell a new bbbl costs 110.00 now is there a charge to fit it by the factory ?
I have a .45-70 sb2 frame. I want to have installed a .223 for varmits. I see they come with a bull bbl 24" and one that is fluted. Which shoots the best and how much alteration of the forend ? Will my .45-70 still fit and shoot ? I will have the factory do it unless one of you guys wants to sell a .223 bbl and do the job.
Obviously I don"t know much about this from my questions. So help put me on the right road. Many thanks

With all the havoc at Remington right now, I'd look for a .223 here on the classifieds and fit it myself.  It's not rocket science, and the FAQs and lots of good, knowledgeable folks are here to help.

seems like it's 15 for the fitting and another 15 shipping. The factory should be able to handle the job just fine. can't say what barrel would be best but the fluted one would look cool

It don't change your other barrel they fit the barrel to your frame so the .45-70 will still fit just fine.. I'd say the factory is the easiest way but buying used barrell and fitting them can be fun. As to which .223 shoots best, You never know till you put a few rounds down range. The bull barreled .223 genrally shoots well.  You don't have to modify the forearms at all they all fit. Go to the top of this forum and read the FAQs and handie 101 it will answer a lot of questions you don't even know yet. Cheers 8)

CB, I think if you look at the Ilion Satisfaction poll sticky, you'll see those that have ordered accessory barrels lately have been very happy with the products, some have come back in about a month, just depends on what you order and if they have it in stock when they get your frame. I'd call and ask when you're ready to order and have them check inventory, the bull barrels will be the most consistently accurate, but if they can give you the number of barrels available at the time you call, order the one they have the most of, that will give you a better chance of it being in stock when they get to your frame as they do them first come, first serve, they may have it when you call, but it could be out of stock later.  Fees are listed on the order form in the FAQs and Help sticky, $15 fitting per barrel, $15 return shipping per frame you send in, toll free 866-776-9292. Another member posted recently that the shipping fee has increased to $18, they also charge sales tax. Some members have been charged other fees for proofing, but those recent orders have only been charged fitting, shipping and sales tax.
