H&R Topper Deluxe turkey chokes and loads
« on: January 04, 2009, 04:00:15 PM »
Hi folks , new to this forum.
I've seen some great info already. I just spent the last 2 hrs. looking . My head hurts from reading so much.
I just bought a 12ga Topper Deluxe to use as a turkey gun. Does anybody else use this gun ? If so , how do you like it ?
     My question is (are)........
1...What choke seems to work best ? (Indian Creek , Jellyhead , Tightwad , etc)
2...which shells seem to pattern best ?
3...I saw a post about epoxying rifle sights on . Does that seem to hold up ok ?

I know I will have to find what works with my particular gun but maybe your help with save me a little cash in these trying economic times.

         Thanx , Jimmie

I use a TDC for my turkey hunting.   Currently my setup consists of an HS Strut Undertaker .665 choke and Winchester Supreme 3" shells tossing 1 3/4 oz of copper-plated #5's.   Patterns very well out to 40.

I'm purchasing a Kicks Gobblin' Thunder for it this year and am going to try the Winchester Xtended Range shells in #5.   From what I hear, this combo punches dime-sized holes in the paper at 50 yards!!  :o

Thanks.   Won it two years ago at my NWTF Banquet.   It was the JAKES Gun of the Year for 2007.

I've added some weight to the stock and a SIMS slip on recoil pad.    She points real nice, and, with an MOD choke makes a heck of a singles trap gun.
