POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO BAD ECONOMY
« on: January 23, 2009, 09:06:03 AM »
Here is my thought- Instead of the government giving millions upon millions to the banks and automakers to start the economy- why not give every citizen ,a half million dollars. It would be cheaper than all the money the corporations want and everyone would pay off their debts- that would be the condition for getting the money. The money left would be used to buy stuff  which would get the economy going again. What do you think ? ???
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

Your plan would cost
150,000,000,000,000.00

300,000,000 x 500,000.00 = 150,000,000,000,000.00

That is 150 TRILLION dollars... though I dont have a problem with someone giving me 500,000.00 dollars... it would not be better.

Hey here is an idea for the liberal geniuses, don't give me any of the "Governments" money, just take less of mine.

You thought inflation during Carter was bad.... WOW.  A loaf of bread would be $300.  You would look like a drug dealer with a huge roll just to get a coffe at starbucks.
We just need government to do less and take less of our pay and the economy will right it's self.
If you give poor people 10% of their income back they can do some things if you give the rich 10% of their income back they will do things with it to make it make more $ for them and hire people for those endevors.  Trickle down economics works.  When will the idiots in government learn that?  Also with less percentage of taxes being paid more is able to be done the GNP raises and more total dollars flood into the governemnt and the liberals are able to do thier silly social programs that have not worked in 50 years.  Well if you want a permiment under class it has worked to keep people there.  They could have paid for higher education for every poor person three times over for what they have spent on the war on poverty.  All it has done is created a whole layer of managment in the government that eats up huge chunks of $ in salary, benifits, and retirement.

The government only has one source of income.  The working folk.  If they tax the corporations, that extra cost is factored into the product they produce.  If they tax the working stiff, we have less to buy with.  The solution is less government, less taxes, more individual freedom to spend what we want, when we want, in the way we want.  I don't want the feds to "give" me anything, because they have to "take" it from me or someone else.

Now your plan may work if they were to do a Social security number lottery and send out a check to 20% of the population.  Those people will go on a spending spree and that may stimulate the economy but will again cause some inflation and like Mechanic said.  to give they will have to take it from others.
One place I say they start is with the salary and staff of the dolts in congress.  Why does a senator need so many aids?  It's all about power and cubical kingdoms.

I believe I have the answer to the economy's problems. And it's actually very simple. Problem would be solved in much shorter time than what the gov't. is proposing. If the gov't would keep their fingers out of it, stay home, and don't do a damn thing, the economy would right it's self in short order. 1 to 2 years. The gov't is goiing to get it'self involved, and keep it messed up for years to come. Make it much worse than it would be, and much longer. It worked that way for FDR, kept this country in a depression until WW11. Hate to say it, but it's the Democratic way. Bush kept listening to the Dem's, instead of studing Reagan. Never changed Clinton's policy's. Now we have the ''teflon don'', to look forward to for the next 4 years. gypsyman

Matt-
Your 150,000,000,000,000 might not be that far off. He wants to spend 825,000,000,000 his first week on the job. My calculator doesn't go up that high, but he would hit that 150 trillion number in about his third month, no?

I thought it was outrageous to spend 100 dollars to fill the gas tank in my truck a year ago, a year from now it will cost 100,000.

Well if he was to spend 825 billion dollars a month every month for 8 years it would only be 79.2 trillion dollars... so no it is not even close.

I wish the government would just butt out and let the economy collapse and stay out if it so that as it comes back up its a true free market.

I am growing very tired of your arrogance and ignorance... and the next time you want to add to a comment... edit your post and add it... enough of the back to back posting just to run up your post count...

by the way there are 96 months in an 8 year timespan ... not 128.

Like I said, my calculator doesn't have that many zero's on it. Didn't mean to be arrogant-I'm from minnesota, I think my brain is just frozen, look at the people we elect! I wish I could delete a bunch of my posts that were made spontaneously, I really could care less about post count.

750 Billion / 200 million (yeah I know there are 300 Americans, but I cut some out for those under 18) = 3750.  So each adult would get roughly $3,750.  That would be a start but then the corporate leaders that own congress wouldn't get their $50,000,000 payouts to retire.  What I would like to see is actually instead of Congress bailing out the auto makers, they spend the entire amount to buy new cars.

Think about it:  25 billion dollars/25 thousand dollars equals 1,000,000 new fuel efficient cars on the road.  Instead of GM paying bills and still having no orders for new cars.  They would pay bills and still be producing new cars.  They entire government would get new more fuel efficient cars.

Give bailout money to citizens.  We would spend the money where we see fit and the companies that fail would be the ones that don't/won't produce what we want or need.

If you just give a few thousand dollars to every man, woman, and child in America, the rich would save it, the middle class would pay on bills, and the poor would spend it at Wal-mart on Chinese made goods.  It would not help the economy.  Like someone said, 1) let the government buy new fleet vehicles.  This would put the car companies to work.  2) Take the tax off per gallon on gasoline, and place an import tax on oil.  This would encourage domestic production.  3) Lower corporate taxes on companies who bring back factories to America, and begin to tax competitive imports.  This would bring good paying jobs back to America with associated insurance benefits.

Yeah, all these great ideas sound an awful lot like what is coming out of the Obama and Congress.  Matt and a couple others have it about right, but no one has mentioned the obvious, so I will.  Get rid of all the illegals and keep them out.  These criminal invaders are sucking this country dry and while getting them the heck out of here may not solve all our problems, it would be a good start.

I think if we shipped all the liberals out of America it would go a long way toward fixing the economy. Being most liberals are basically parasites on the producers of this nation, putting them on a ship bound for parts unknown would be a benefit.

Overnight fix to the economy= nationalize the credit card companied and pronounce all debts paid in full. the economy would recover in less than 90 days.No great money outlay most c.c. companies have already made a profit tghey would cry pi$$ and moan but the economy would show an upturn the first of the month after it was done.

torpedoman, Great Idea. Let me know just before this happens and I'll go out and get a credit card and run up as much as possible and then just let it lapse. See this would be great for me as I would not then be penalised for my past, as I always pay all my bills monthly. It would be great to have someone else pay for my bad decisions in life. You da man!
