I've never heard of the "putrid pudding" you refer to. Once one adds skunk essence to the bacon grease, they have now made a lure out of the grease which would probably increase the animal response. However, if it was now so strong with skunk as you mentioned, the bacon grease odor has been overpowered by the skunk and probably nullified completely by the skunk, making it a one substance call again. What constitutes an exceptional lure, in my opinion, is a group of enticing odors and ingredients that can all be detected and analyzed by the canine. This is what create a maximum response at the set and keeps the animal at the set longer. Think about it a moment, if canines were to spend a lot of time going out of their way to smell skunk musk, in my locality at least, they would be zig-zagging all over the countryside wherever a skunk had been. If they spent any time investigating each skunk encounter and hanging around to analyze it at each set, they would never get where they were going. I think an enormous amont of skunk odor like a whole dead skunk buried in the set area does bring canines off their trave route and into the area where they can detect the sets lured with a multi-ingredient lure. However, to use skunk strictly as the lure itself leaves a lot to be desired. Ace :-)
