« on: January 19, 2009, 04:56:21 PM »
i have a chance to buy either a rossi model 971 in 357 magnum, or a comanche 111 in 357 magnum. both are new, and the same price $285.00. i have heard a few things about rossi but nothing about comanche, thank yall for any help.

The Comanche is made in Argentina, they are all steel, no pot metal. They are a bit rough in finish and sort of clunky looking, especially the thick top strap and tall sights but they are a decent gun for the money.
I've heard a lot of negatives on Rossi but my own 6" barreled stainless .357 is impressively accurate, has a good trigger in double action and excellent in single action and has been doing good work for six or eight years now without a hitch. From a solid rest it will keep it's favorite load inside two inches at fifty yards and that is way better than I can do with any gun without a rest.
Like most gun buffs I look at handguns and think "that is nice", or "I'd really like to have one of those", but then I stop and think "but I have my Rossi .357 and what more do I need?" Of course I also have an S&W 22A and an AMT .22 rim mag and a couple of compact carry guns but the 6" .357 Rossi fills its' niche very well.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

I'd look harder, in search of a good used Ruger Security Six, or GP-100. I don't offer these comments in order to hurt anyone's feelings. I simply want such an important tool to work every time, and for generations.
