Where's the .308 brass

I just bought a 308 and aside from the high end brass, have discovered that it's almost impossible to find.  I guess I've been under a rock but whats the deal.

Try Gunbroker.com.  You should be able to scarf up 1,000 cases at a reasonable price if you're not after the premium stuff.

Don't turn your nose up at the military stuff either.  It takes more work to remove the crimp from the primer pocket but it's good brass and you only need to prep the primer pocket once.

 ??? hardly you're not alone, the same thing happened to me! It's 308 cases & 308 bullets! Hopefully I have

wow, haven't shopped for bullets yet.  Planning on SMK 175's, better start looking.

Got a Handi .308 this summer and had the same problem finding brass. All the online stores were "out of stock".
Kept an eye on my three favorite sites for Remington .308 brass and finally Midsouth Shooters got a batch in September and I snarfed up a couple hundred real quick. In about a weeks time they were "out of stock" again and I haven't seen them in stock again since the "Election".

I have been buying factory loads just for future brass in .308.  I go to the local range, and pick up brass all the time.  Plenty of 270, 7mm-08, 30-06, 9mm, 40sw, but hardly any .308.  Usually there is plenty of .223.

As far as brass in concerned; I covered that above.

For bullets, try the Nosler Pro Shop for factory seconds.  In my opinion, Noslers match bullets shoot just as well as the Sierras.

I think most of the brass is in Iraq, Afghanistan and a few other places.  This is a good and bad thing.  Good to get it out of terrorist hands, but bad that is gets destroyed. 

Too bad we don't have access to guns and ammo that are being destroyed over there every day.   WOW!!

I haven't tried it yet, but can you take 7mm08 and neck it out to .308?  I find a lot of this at the shooting range, but no .308.  Guess the 7mm08 hunters don't reload.  I also find a lot of .243's.  Can you make .308 out of .243's also?

I must be the exception,  at my range I can get all the 308 I can lug home. I am acquiring a 308 barrel for the ncore and I have resized a lot to 7-08 that I also have for the encore.

243 & 7mm08 are from necked down 308, so I don't see a problem with sizeing them back up. The necks may be a little shorter than factory 308 cases though.

If I were resizing 7mm-08 or 243 up to 308, I would make sure to mark the cases, as they will have the wrong headstamp.
It probably won't be a problem unless you have a 243 or 7mm-08 rifle, but you wouldn't want to get them mixed up and and try to put a 30 cal bullet down a 7mm or, even worse, a .243 bore.

Necking up should not be as big a problem as necking down. It probably would not fit the smaller chamber.  But putting a .243 in a .308 would be easy, but could cause problems.  Just an opinion.  My .35 whelen won't fit in my 30-06.
