10/22 barrel -- Butler Creek or Green Mountain?
« on: August 16, 2003, 04:12:21 PM »
I am in the market for a heavy barrel for my 10/22. I am looking for a 20" blued barrel. I have heard a lot about the green mountain barrels, but haven't heard much about the butler creeks. I am trying to setup my rifle as a really accurate target rifle. I am already using my swift 4-12x scope, and have a power custom action kit on order. I also intend to  get a bell and carlson  odyssey stock for it.

ST, the GMB have a very good reputation as far as accuracy. Check here for more info: http://www.rimfirecentral.com  MI VHNTR

Savage Tactical,

When I started working on the families 10/22's(5 of them) I tried Butler Creek barrels.  Nothing but problems.  Wouldn't fit and after getting one that would fit the accuracy wasn't any better than the factory barrel.  I switched to Green Mountain barrels and what a difference.  Every one fit the first time and accuracy was what was to be expected.  Go with Green Mountain barrels and don't look back.  Lawdog

I was in the market for a bbl last year and everyone on Rimfirecentral forums loved the Green Mtns.  I called Ken at Whiteface Mountain Barrel supply and ordered a blued 20".  He mailed it to me that afternoon, with my word that the check was in the mail (no CC accepted, maybe now?).  The barrel shoots much better than I do and digests anything you feed it.  My best groups are with Eley Practice ($1.99) and Rem. bulk gold bullets, go figure.  They're well worth the money and Ken gives the best service I've seen in a long time.
