Mojo Redtail Hawk motorized decoy
« on: October 21, 2008, 09:21:53 AM »
Ok Mojo has been selling this redtail hawk decoy for two years now. Has anyone used this over any other decoy or bait for coyote hunting and if so, is it effective?  http://mojooutdoors.com/prod_HW4310_mojo-hawk.htm

No Sir, I have never used the Mojo Redtail Hawk decoy but if you have Redtail Hawk numbers In McHenery/Lake Counties as high as we do here in Sangamon county, you would certainly be (matching the hatch) so to speak. Anything that you can do to put the Coyote at ease is going to greatly improve your chances and the Hawk decoy will qualify.

It can also give you a lot more to Carry!. If you have your new Hawk decoy, and the decoy that the Hawk is overlooking, and perhaps an electronic call you will need a back pack for sure.
You will also have to carry the slung rifle and perhaps a Coyote over your shoulder upon your return.
I like to travel light and use mouth calls only. I have put together a few home made "tronics" but they now belong to my Son & son-in-law...I do have a decoy but it is very light and portable and I dont take it all of the time but instead rely on my calling site choices to give the Coyotes a way to hunt me down without exposing theirselves to the open too much. I also do a lot of "change-ups" and usually have squallers, howlers,
Turkey diaphrams, and even an old Mr. Squirrel distress call on my person...you can get a feel for what is needed depending on the area & terrain but it is a lot to cover right here & right now.

For more on the decoys, see (The Ultimate Decoy) post that is around five up from the bottom of this page.

I have stated before that I use a rabbit decoy with a turkey decoy standing by it, It works for me.
Coyotes love to steal from hawks.
