Thumbhole stock and recoil question
« on: February 01, 2009, 05:14:03 PM »
I noticed that a couple offerings by H & R come with the laminated thumbhole stocks.

Such as the 12 gauge slug barreled shotgun, and a 45-70, so does the stock help with recoil  or what is the purpose other than cosmetic as they look good?

I've not considered them since they don't look as stout as a regular stock, but that's why I'm asking if anyone has one, and can explain the advantage.
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

They do help reduce felt recoil because your arm weight adds weight to the rifle, but to me they're also very nice to shoot and look great. I have 6 of em, two on factory rifles and four with Pachmayr Decelarator pads that I got from Boyd's and or one of their dealers. They're listed on the accessory barrel page.
