357 load using Unique
« on: January 31, 2009, 02:33:16 PM »
I thought I saw a load for this in one of the manuals using Hornady #35750, 158gr, HP/XTP bullet?  but all I can find is on the Alliant webpage for a 158 gr. Speer gold dot HP, CCI 500 primer, 7.7gr of Unique.

Would that be comparable with the Hornady bullet #35750, assuming I start at 10% lower @ 6.93 gr and work it up slowly?

I wanted to use Titegroup or Bullseye and couldn't find any in town!  I have some SWC ordered online, so I could just use the Unique for that bullet.

What do you think?

the 7.7 load is max in the Speer manual. I run 7.3 under all  158 Speers jacketed bullets and also under 158 XTPs, both JFP and JHPs. It makes for a good plinker under  cheap 158 remmies also. This is in a 6'' 686. Much less gets dirty.

thanks buck, I thought this would work OK. I will start at the low end and work it up slowly. I am new to 357s...what is the "cheap 158 remmie"?
I am reloading for a S&W Model 66-2, 6" stainless.

I think he is talking about the Remington 158g HP's , most of the time you can find them for under $15 per 100 , they may not be the best bullets in the world but they do shoot ok and are a better cost for plunking than a XTP if using jacketed bullets .

yep....stimpy is correct. Sorry about the confusion.  I buy them @ a local gun shop for about $60 for a box of 500. If you watch close, sometimes Midway has them on sale for less than that. They shoot very close to the premium 158s outta my gun, so I also use them for practice at hunting load levels.

thanks that sounds like a good price for practice loads.
