.44 Magum Model # Question

Hello:
I just purchased a new .44 Magnum synthetic blue barrel Model SB1S44 (printed on the box) in January.  The serial number indicates that it was manufactured in 2008.  Amazingly, the receiver was stamped SB2.  Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
 
Also, has anyone tried the new Hornady #4305 265 grain FTX bullet in a Handi-Rifle?  If so, has anyone found a good accurate hunting load?

The receiver or the barrel is marked? Barrels are routinely marked SB2, receivers have never been marked. The SB1 receivers should be marked with similar info to that on the website and in the catalog....*Note: The frame of the 44 Mag. (SB1-S44) and the 357 Mag. (SB1-S35) cannot be fit with any other centerfire rifle barrel. They are capable of being fit with accessory shotgun barrels, but their rifle capability is limited to the specific 44 or 357 Mag. barrel that it is shipped on the gun.

 

I've shot the 225gr FTX LE ammo in mine, it shoots good, the comp bullet just became available, so I wouldn't expect too many have tried it yet. The 265gr bullet is a .444 bullet, likely too hard for the 44mag.

Well...I'm half right.  You are correct the receiver is not marked SB2, but the barrel is marked SB2.

Many barrels are marked SB2, more often than not. They're marked long before they're assembled, they use the same barrels for complete rifles as they do for accessory barrels.

Hi Dr.
I just purchased a 44 mag Handi made in 2008 and my barrel is stamped SB2 as well, I was also wondering about this so thanks for asking. Keep us informed when you shoot yours (I have not shot mine yet), let us know how it goes and I will do same. Good luck.

I haven't shot mine either.  I have loaded .44's years ago, but that was for a 629 S&W and a Contender.  I hope we will receive some suggestions on some accurate hunting loads.

I will be trying Magtech 240 grain JSP's and Hornady Leverevolution 225 grain in mine. I was going to order some Fiocchi 240 grain JSP's from same site but they came after my order and told me they were out. Anyway, one fellow on here said he had MOA results out of his with the Fiocchi. Just Fyi....
