Gun Storage
« on: February 01, 2009, 11:44:11 AM »
Hello , Was wondering about silicone gun bags . Are they good to use for storing guns in mt gun safe or would they actually promote rust/moisture . Not that its very humid or moist here in San Diego . Any thoughts or experience with would be appreciated .

Thanks !

If by gun bags you mean gun socks then yes they will do a fine job.
Just give the gun a light coat of a good gun oil, lightly wipe off the excess and slide the sock on.
A couple times a year I take mine out and wipe them down with an oily rag and put them back.
The main thing is to avoid rapid temperature changes that will cause condensation.
I also use a dehumidifier in my main safe and the moisture absorber boxes in the other safes.
This really helps.

Those are only a part of good gun maintenance, and not a very important one if other good maintenance is performed. There are several books on how to clean and store a gun.
