New to me 308 Ultra
« on: February 01, 2009, 03:55:30 PM »
Just bought my first H&R Centerfire.  Walked into a local gunshop and spotted a 2008 H&R Ultra rifle in .308 with a muzzlebrake added (nice job, too).  There was slight wear on the finish on the stock, but I will refinish that when the weather warms.  The metal was in great shape.  They were asking $175 and I couldn't pass it up.  Put a Nikon Buckmasters scope on it that I had laying around and can wait to shoot it.

I cleaned off the latch and degreased, noticed the scope base was loose (hoping this is why the previous owner sold it) and tightened it up.  Gave it a good cleaning and everything is locking up tight and looking good.  Is there anything else to look at before I shoot it?

Also, is there a prefit replacement simms recoil pad for the Ultra rifle?  I have a issue with my eyes that, while not serious yet, makes me want to shoot the remington managed recoil round, and with the muzzlebrake and simms pad I should hardly feel it.

There are a couple prefit Limbsavers listed in the FAQs that may be a close fit, but there's no pad made specifically for it, the only pads they offer are for the synthetic and one for the 988 slug gun that may or may not fit. Of course the small grind to fit will fit perfectly after fitting! :D

GOOD BUY!!!

I have been lucky twice now to PU guns and in going thru them found problems, easily fixed, that made me think this was why the where sold.  I LOVE THAT!!!  I am sure you are correct. As an absolute min it didn't do anything for its accuracy right?

 Good luck with yours!!
