My cousin had one that was doing this as well, he put alot of rounds through it, and Im pretty sure w/ in 6 months the safety tried to fall off or had fallen off. He kept it for a year and traded it for  Colt 1911 Stainless.  The saftey falling off was the only thing he had against the Taurus.

The 2 sides of the safety "snap" together. It's not an unusual problem for any Colt ambidextrous safety, but the Taurus seems to have more of a problem with it. I bought a SS PT1911 in October and have around 300 rounds through it and tons of dry firing. So far everything has been flawless, including the safety.

There are a lot of post in several different forums regarding this problem.

I have a stainless model, with +500 rounds through it and so far so good.  It's my understanding that the clearance on the grips might be the problem.  In other words, the relief on the right side, required for the safety to work, might be to large.
