My son and i finally got together in his boat to go fishin we launch the boat in Lake ..... (secret) here its part of the housatonic river system.  The afternoon started off great its my first time in the 17' fisher boat since I fixed the 1975 18hp evenrude and i have to say she ran awesome one pull starts.  So we get on the water the sun is shining its a great afternoon and going to a hidden cove I seen from land were I seen big fish chasing minnows but can't get there because of the thick woods/hilly terrain we go about a mile and i feel rain drops and I happen to look up and dark clouds are coming in fast and look ahead there seems to be a wall of heavy rain/fog coming at us very fast. So I tell the kid to head back toward the launch all of a sudden we are in the "PERFECT STORM" two foot rollers Its my first time in a small boat and let me tell ya i wasn't a happy camper.  We finally turned the bend and the launch was in site and we are out of the direction of the wind.  We finally got the boat loaded and out of there fast we were soaking wet but safe.  Funny I was arguing with the kid when he got the boat over getting a compass and GPS for the boat you just never know when fog will roll in??  He got a small compass and a very good Garmin hand held GPS on sale $300  a great unit lastweek. You just have to have this stuff this was our first time on this lake/river with a boat.  I have fished other places with boats and I'm not worried about it but being at new large places you just never know??  We just got our safe boating certs and now looking forward to navagation classes too.  It pays to be safe!!!  I'm new to boating.  So anyone ever hit bad rain/weather on the water???  Ever just beach the boat and hope it passes??                        BigBill

And we had lots of big schools fish on the fish finder too go figure!!!

I'm thinking about getting a bassboat but maybe a big one??  Fishing big rivers are harder than lakes with "rougher waters" ??   It been bad weather all summer this year here.  Bad fishing too its still the worst year I ever had so far.   It seems freshwater is like saltwater fishing we get a break the bass are running then there gone almost like blue/striper fishing.  We get very short windows of opportunity between fronts/rain with just a few so/so days inbetween not even normal days of bass fishing. Hows the bass fishing where you are??

My buddy and I launched our boat (16 1/2' bass boat with 80 hp. merc) into the Tennessee river at Cuba landing. As we cruised to our favorite hole, we realized the wind had picked up. We passed a tow boat heading up-river but didn't give it much thought as it was far away. all of a sudden, we found ourselves facing a wall of water behind a deep trough. the nose of the boat dived as the wave crashed head on into us. (the wave had to have been 3 or 4' tall) As we tried to gather our collective wits we were struck by a second wave of similar magnatude. When all was said and done, we lost our docking lights, nearly capsized and flodded the entire boat. We turned on the bilge pump and considered calling it a day. Because we lived so far away we chose to dry out and fish. We had a great time, but still have no idea as to what spawned those damned waves!
