Semi-auto ammo ??
« on: January 18, 2009, 04:11:42 PM »
This may be a stupid ? but whats the difference between regular .22LR ammo vs .22LR Semi-auto ammo??
I see it in some stores now but don't understand the difference between the two rounds.
I have a Remington 597 .22LR {knock-on-wood}with no issues, I know alot of people hate'em but I guess I got real lucky with this one. But anyway my wife has a Savage model 64,and my stepson has a 10/22,I'm
kinda confused about what this new ammo is about. Anyone with info it's greatly appreciated.

There's no practical difference for you - although there MAY be for a competition rimfire auto pistol shooter.

AFAIK, Eley is the only ammo maker branding some of it's Match (competition) ammo a "Semi-Auto".
Eley uses the same lead round-nose profile bullet numerous other rimfire makers do, but they profess to include a "special lubricant", one would suppose for auto pistol feeding smoothness during a match, where a jammer = a loser..........

I seem to recall and old round from days long gone by called something like .22 auto or some such. It wasn't quite the same as any other rimfire round and it fit only a single gun or two made as I recall but Remington. Other than that one I can think of no other with a name anywhere near that.

.22 LR ammo is .22LR ammo and it matters not whether you use a single shot, bolt action, lever action, pump or semi auto to fire it in.

Are you referring to the Federal Auto-Match?
I think it is a marketing gimmick. the only difference
that I see is the bullet appears more silver in color
than the dark grey of other .22lr rounds
