P226 price
« on: March 22, 2008, 10:21:56 PM »
Hello to all, as I am new to the forum. What is the going price for a new standard model P226 in the gun-shops in your area? I am trying to decide between getting a new P226 or P229 in .40 S&W.

Wholesale on the 229 DAK is $549.99, suggested retail is somewhere in the neighborhood of $850.  That should give you a little room to bargain for the gun.  The 226 should be fairly close to this price.

I picked up a "red box" P226 for $549.95 this last November.

They're about $750 new around here (Nor Cal), but if you can find LEO trade-in's prices slide a lot.  I have two and paid $350 and $450 each as I go through the WHOLE pile.  The best bet is to look for one that doesn't have tritium night-sights (as the glow will be pretty much gone anyways).  No night-sights = "desk jockey" and those guns are like brand new excepts for holster wear.  I had to go through the entire inventory at 2 different stores to get mine - but the effort spent looking is well worth it.
Politicians and diapers both require frequent changing for the EXACT same reason…

I found a law enforcement trade-in P229 (without night sights) in .40 S&W, paid $425 out the door. In excellent condition! Must have been a "desk Jockey" pistol!  Man am I happy! ;D
