« on: August 24, 2003, 03:13:46 PM »
Anybody ever take a Boar with a 30-30 Contender? I got a 45-70 contender that Coug built. It killsem fast. It's a little too much for those 100# pigs. I will be shooting factory Rem loads. It will be 75yrds or less. Advise???

It will do the job just fine IF you do YOUR job right. While I've not used the .30-30 in a TC on piggies I have the7-30 Waters. The .30-30 really should do even better. I'd use 170 grain ammo myself but that's up to you.

I don't know about the Contender, but many hunters in Texas use the .30-30 lever-action on hogs.  In Texas, the hogs usually come to the corn feeders, so hunters can set up pretty darn close - sometimes as close as 15 yards or so.  In any event, GB is right, if you place the bullet in the right spot, then the .30-30, even in the contender, should be fine, especially as distances shorter than, say, 75 yards.
