Scope for a Mini 14?
« on: February 01, 2009, 06:16:37 AM »
A friend of mine has a Ruger Mini 14.  He wants to use it for predator hunting. My question is, what kind of scope should he mount on it?  He wants a good scope.  What is a good round for this kind of gun?

please reply

I'd put a good 3-9 on it. That's plenty of scope for the range of the rifle and at 3x it has enough FOV for the closer in shots that will come from calling them in.

I have read that the mini 14 really tears up a scope.  They recommend using a pretty good scope that tolerates recoil or get a buffer.
I use a Mueller on mine and have no problems.

I have never seen one that was accurate enough to get any use from a scope.  Larry
A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

Kinda why I recommended what I did. Way more than enough magnification to take advantage of what little accuracy they have in them. But then so would a 2X or so.  ;D

There are some fix's that you can do to enhance accuracy.  Like putting a recoil reducer/ flash hider on.  For some reason many people have reported shrinking groups by 1/2 doing this, Mine is now about a 2" moa shooter.  For what I use it for I can live with that.  Also, as with many firearms, need to find correct load/bullet weight. Mine likes 55gr.
