worth getting C&R license?
« on: April 11, 2009, 03:31:48 PM »
Is it worth gettinga C&R license, I have a couple of rifles that are on the list and may in the future get a mosin nagant.  A local dealer will sell me anything aim or classic carries at his cost.  Im thinking the midway discount would be what I use it for mostly.  How much is the discount?  For example: nikon buckmaster 4x40 sells for 179.95 what could it be with the discount.

http://www.midwayusa.com/browse/BrowseProducts.aspx?&tabId=10&categoryId=15277&categoryString=657***11392***11396***15272***&brandId=1320

Also does wideners offer a discount and again how much.  Any other places and the amount of discount would be appreciated also.

Thanks snowman357

This is something each individual must weigh against what is available and what they can afford.  If your dealer will sell rifles from AIM at cost, I'd go for that.  The C&R is just not what it was several years ago.  If you're really into surplus rifles go for it.  If you just wanting a cheap hunting rifle, your buddy would be the way to go. The only cheap surplus out there now is the Mosin.  After that, most surplus is just as much if not more than the modern stuff. For example, an Enfield or a Mauser in decent condition is $200+ (there are cheaper ones but you gamble getting junk) now and you can get a Mossberg ATR for $260 now.  I wanted a CZ in 9x18 but I got a bersa 380 for only a few dollars more.  The discounts at Midway and Graf and Sons are not anything to write home about.  You'll only save if your orders are in the $200-500 range.  I think the break on ammo per box only came to about .27 on wverage per box for the calibers I use at Graf and Sons.....Not much of a discount if you ask me.

Snowman357,

Well, I am getting ready to renew my C&R for the third time (3 year license). I must add something not mentioned yet that the C&R allows you to do. One of the main reasons I have one, and use it for, is to be able to go to gun shows, or even on vacations, and at flea markets, local estate auctions, as it enables you to legally purchase C&R firearms wherever you and legally take them right into your possession. This is across state lines,etc..waiving any "waiting period" as some states have.

I have used mine for direct purchasing from wholesalers, like AIM, SOG, Century, etc.. but the methods mentioned above have been excersized much more often.

Just my .02 worth..  ;D

Don't know about the discount, but something else that is cool about having a C&R is the fact that
you can buy a C&R milsurp rifle online and have the Big Brown Truck deliver it right to your front
door. The only way that I can get any kind of a decent price on C&R milsurps is to get them online.
The dealers within a 50 mile radius of me completely gouge everyone with their prices. I wouldn't
buy a stick of gum from them! I have always got great deals on nice C&R rifles that I have bought
online. Either from a dealer or from an auction site like Gunbroker.com. I think the 03/C&R is the
greatest thing since sliced bread! For only $33 for 3 years and about 15 minutes worth of paper
work! I will definitely be renewing mine!
