Duel Fuel Handi
« on: March 21, 2009, 08:03:56 AM »
Here it is, cwlongshot has the worlds first rimmed or rimless Handi, a 308/307 Winchester.  The ejector works for both with a slight modification to allow it to jump the rimmed case in the event the case head falls under the ejector when loaded.  Real slick setup.  Larry

Great work you guys!! Can't wait to hear how it shoots.  If the rim will tighten things up or not as far as accuracy.  Very cool.  Wonder how many will follow with that mod!  Sounds like a natural.

My reasoning for is not the norm..... as for accuracy, it was likely very accurate as it was. (Surely I hope its at least that good.) I like many people have had my share of "problems" with higher intencity calibers in handis. I WAS going to build a 30-30 AI, but a recient post (Bill  ;D ::) ) made me realize there is a better way. I already had the 308 barrel, "issues" with data in the AI and the ability to still shoot the orig caliber where to many pluses to ignore. This way I got a rimmed case, I can load to surpass the 30-30 in any capacity, buy factory ammo and like I already mentioned, shoot the origional caliber 308.

I'll be loading this to approx 45,000cup. This should get me better than a 30-30. I'll defineately be posting up a range report.

Now that it can fire rimmed cartridges you could run a 308 AI reamer in and have a proper 307 AI chambering in a Handi.  Larry

P.S. I managed to get in the mail today.

Where else but on G.B. do you get one day turn around on barrel work?  Larry

cwlongshot, hope you have better luck than I,  I converted a 30-30 to .307 win. about year and half ago.  The 30-30 never did shoot well so I felt I had nothing to lose.  Guess what?  still shoots 3 1/2"-4" groups same as before but with more thump.  Rule # 1 if your barrel isn't accurate, it probably won't improve after conversion. I never thought of using the same extractor on the .308 for converting, I am glad it worked out for you.  To me I believe having a rimed cartridge is an advangage in this firearm design, although I do have a handi in .223 that has not given me any problems.  Thanks for sharing your findings, I din't coment on my conversion simply because I thought the accuracy thing may turn folks off.  The convrsion works great, but am still with a 100yd. handi deer rifle.  Hope to do another bbl. soon  Bill 439

Thanks for the insight Bill!!  ALL opinions are welcome. We each will take away what we want, and disregard the rest, no one looses.
Hopefully it will be a shooter. I see no reason why it will not be, but time will tell.

Sounds like something else was going on with that barrel from the start. 30-30 Handi's are generally some of the most accurate Handi's.
My 30-30 Handi is one of my best shooters.

Spanky makes a good point, I have two 30-30 Handis, they both shoot excellent, I'd be sending it back to H&R for repair/replacement, their standard of accuracy is 2" or better 3-shot 100yd groups with factory ammo.

Well I got to the range today. I only had one test box of loads, four different loads five shells each. All shot really good, one load was better. All shot under an inch @ 50yards.
