Don't beat me up... ever heard of an "arrow gun"?
« on: February 19, 2009, 11:35:06 PM »
Was digging around looking for rifle camo stuff and found the Lauer Weapons page and then a reference to their "arrow guns".  Does anyone HAVE one?  Have you ever SEEN one?  Seems like a neat toy to have.  Don't know the legality or usefullness for hunting but it might be fun to have one to shoot...  Talk about a conversation piece!  Inquiring minds want to know more...

Airrow is how it is spelled if you want to do a more in depth
search, and yes I am familiar with them.
They are interesting modern renditions of an old idea.
There are many old harpoon guns that functioned in a similar manner.
Watch "Jaws", the old Shark hunter has a Martini version.
There are some rifle grenades that function in a similar manner also.
a neat idea, but A crossbow would be more practical I believe.

A friend had one years ago. It was built on a 10/22 action. It fired almost full legnth shafts with screw in broad head tips. Quite accurate as well. IIRC it used a blank to fire the arrow.

Years ago in the gun digest there was something called a Harrow gun I believe, it used compressed gas and fired arrows at 500 + FPS. I think it was British.

the Airrow gun seems to use two barrels.  A small diameter one that fits INSIDE the shaft of the arrow and then an outer shroud.  Seems sort of cool.  I was thinking of a larger bore with a sabot at the rear of the arrow...  I might have to get stupid and try that sometime.  Of course I'd do it with a remote control first.  About 25 foot of string...

That is exactly how the one I shot was built. The arrows had no knock on them. actually, there was nothing there where the knock should be, just a hollow tube only sealed at the tip where the head mounted. The arrow also had plastic vanes for flight stability just like a regular arrow.
