Kodiak Pro 50 cal misfires
« on: February 12, 2009, 12:25:23 PM »
Third year for this gun which is very accurate with two 50 Triple Seven pellets and the PB 295 soft tip but this year, for whatever reason, I'm getting a ton of misfires. I've tried every different kind of 209 primer and still the same. Someone told me that the firing pin can get off center with this type of drop action and if the pin doesn't hit the primer dead center, it won't fire. Very frustrating as I have no confidence in the gun at all and have gone back to the CVA Buckhorn which for the money has to be the best m/l ever made. Any thoughts or similar experiences out there?

Seems to me that if the firing pin is not putting a good dimple in the primer, it has to be (1) weak spring, or (2) broken pin, or (3) crud/rust in the pin housing, with (3) being most likely.

One other possibility is that the action has loosened up and there is too much space between the breech face and the primer.  Have you tried backing the breech plug out a little so that when you close the action it's snug against the primer?

If the pin is putting a good dimple in the primer and the primer is not going off, you've got contaminated primers.
