New Francotte Martini's for sale?? Would you buy?
« on: August 13, 2003, 12:23:21 PM »
You may have seen here on the board a couple of fellas are looking into making new Francotte Martini Cadets. They want to start with action and perhaps go on to complete rifles. I think it is a  grand idea.

For what it's worth they have received input from several other notables including Bob Snapp and Ken Hurst.

We would like to now hear from the folks here on the board.

Here are some possible discussion items.

Would you buy a new made action?

How much would you pay for just an action?

Would buy a new made Cadet sporting rifle?

What would you be willing to pay?

Would you have an interest in a larger Cadet action? Something thing that would take say a 45/70 size round yet not be as big as a full size MH or ZAR Martini. A mid size cadet.?

Would you rather see a hammer Peabody than a new cadet?

I would prefer to buy a finished rifle rather than an action.  Desirable chamberings might include .22 Hornet or K-Hornet, .223 with Snapp's rimless extractor, .225 Win, .256 Win, .25-35 Win, 6.5 JDJ, etc.  Price would depend on barrel and wood quality.  Anything remotely reasonable would be hard for me to resist - maybe not so hard for my wife to resist

Sir:  i would like to see (buy) a new complete matrini rifle. perhaps the action could be scaled up slightly from cadet size.  it should be significantly cheaper than a ruger # 1 as it is likely to be significantly less of a gun, and with current casting technology it is possible to follow the essential nature of the cadet martini at such a price.   put a quality barrel on it and pay attention to mechanical tolerances.   i want mine in .32-20.  someone should do some serious .45-70 shooting before fixing on such a martini beast,  but a mid size action would make a very nice 38-55.  thanks for the opportunity to input.   olduvai george

I think such a venture would be accepted by the masses. A slightly larger action would be nice so it would handle the 44 mag class of ammo and with modern metallurgy you could go into the 450 Marlin class. I own a 45/70 converted martini and it is not that hard on the shoulder but you do know when you pull the trigger. I also own a 32/40 on a cadet action and with 170 grain bullets you know when it goes off as well. A true cadet action with modern steels and a high quality barrel would handle the 225 Winchester very well and another good round would be the 219 Zipper. The possibilities would be endless!   Just my 2 cents worth!

Put me down as a YUP! Definitely interested. Have had a number of Martinis over ther years, mostley the old originals in 577/450. Had one that was converted to 45/70. Had a couple in .303 Br, one highly 'sporterized' which I actually lugged around as a deer rifle for awhile.

Also had a great little Cadet which I used for small bore silhouette for awhile.

I would love something in 30/30 so I could use pointy bullets. Had a T/C carbine and an old H&R model 59 in 30/30 and loved them both.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Standard small Francotte style cadet action with all the innards in the trigger group available for rim and rimless cartridges.

The a second action will be between the Cadet and a full size Martini Henry. Francotte style.  An up scaled Cadet.  45/70 largest target round.  30-30 with pointed bullets, piece of cake.

May be coming out soon.  A couple fellows have the desire, knowledge and the ambition and are recieving guidance from Bob Snapp.
