Need Help with 1860 Revolver

I have an 1860 Navy Arms Sheriff's Model .36 cal revolver that the cylinder will not line up properly. Also the hammer will not stay at half cock. This gun was not treated properly and had some rust on the shaft. That has now been cleaned and is in pretty good shape. Any ideas on this little baby? I want to get it shooting again. Have you taken apart the trigger group?  The single actions have a pretty simple mechanism; make sure springs are not broken or out of place and remove all buildup, check for wear on contact surfaces.  Check the first posts of this forum for more detailed instructions.

Check the hammer's half cock notch, if it's broken off, you either need it welded up to recut, or buy a new hammer from VTIgunparts.  A new hammer is probably easies to do, and the cheapest fix.

Another possibility is the trigger's sear, which if broken, may no longer fit into the hammer's half-cock notch.  Replace the broken part.

The cylinder may not line up due to the possibly broken sear, as the hand won't push the cylinder far enough around.

Checking the inside parts might show that more parts need to be replaced, and as there aren't many parts in there to replace to begin with, and if it's been badly abused, it might need them  Call VTI about parts.

Also take a look at the Cylinder where the bolt locks in the notches .   Have the Cylinder notches been wallowed out from abuse?
