Installing a new Trigger Guard
« on: February 21, 2009, 09:01:09 AM »
It seems like I'm all thumbs when it comes to more complicated matters re: gunsmithing.......don't have the tools either;  Anyway, I'm sending in a H&R 38-55 TC receiver & stock to have H&R fit a 45-70 BC barrel to it.

BUT......I also have a steel trigger guard and fore end spacer set from "way back when".......  The spacer is simple, alrerady done that.  But I think the trigger guard is just above my pay grade so to speak ;D >:( :o

Question?????

Would H&R install it (for a price I'm sure) when they fit the new barrel if I made such a request?  Just wondering.  Thanks,  Jim.

I'm sure they would, Brian, one of the gunsmiths from Gardner that transferred to Ilion, should be familiar with it and do it for ya, they did lots of them at Gardner, it would be a good time to get a trigger job done too. For that matter tho, they aren't hard to fit, there isn't much fitting to them, usually the front edge needs to have a little metal removed to allow pin alignment, I've done several of them along with many trigger jobs which aren't hard, just a little unnerving the first time, if you know what I mean, there are complete trigger hone info links in the FAQs, just a few basic tools are required, many, many first timers here have done them.  ;)

TopperT, A little while back my transfer bar came apart. I was horrified.  I looked in the FAQs, went to Home Depot and bought a punch set, and came home to set to work.  Did I mention I was horrified???
The Trigger Hone instructions are great and have lots of pictures.  I was able to replace my transfer bar (which requires almost complete dis-assembly), and I did a trigger job while I had it apart.

I say if I can do it, anyone can  ;D

Now I would be comfortable doing trigger work or replacing any part on the gun.  Its only scary until you get in there and see how easy it is to work on.
