Which guns do you most regret selling?
« on: February 14, 2009, 07:29:27 PM »
How often have you said, I never should have sold it? My list would include an Ohio Ordnance BAR, a Mateba auto-revolver, a Bingham PPs-50, an American-180, a Winchester 1895 saddle ring carbine, a model A Uzi, a Winchester 1894 Centennial, an unfired P08 Luger, a SIG P210, a Benelli MP90S, ...maybe it would be easier to just list the ones I'm glad I got rid of: the Navy Arms LeMat, the S&W Schofield, the Walther G22, the semi-auto Thompsons, the Ruger No. 1 Lyman special, the Bolo Mauser, the .....well maybe not.  I wonder why I'm always broke?

I have never been a black gun fan but...
I sold a Colt AR in 9mm that was the fastest shooting little gun, this was at the start of my varmint hunting and that gun would hit a gallon jug only half of the time at 75 yards so I let it go cheep. A few months later a guy went nuts in McDonalds in CA and prices went up, I saw that gun on the wall at my local shop for $1800.
I also traded a H&K shotgun M3 Super 90 with a factory folding stock. The gun is both pump and semi-auto. It was a 6 shot and I thought it would be cool in a shotgun only state for deer but again I did not find a slug it would shoot well so I traded it for a very early unfired Delta Elite that is in the back corner of my safe still unfired.

Winchester 26 inch barreled "Classic" 94, Winchester 94 from c. 1915.  Zouave replica that shot well, (the one I have now is of lesser quality).

And then there's the list of guns I almost bought but didn't. At the top of that list would be a 100 year old, unfired, in the box, H & R top break revolver for $300. That was over 12 years ago, and I'm still kicking myself.

I had a plainfield .30 carbine that i adored.  The thing kept slamfiring. Took it back to the gunshop for repair where I bought it. He "fixed" it.  Brought it home, slammed wore. - took it back to the gunshop and traded for a Stevens 200... man I wish i woulda just took that to a smith who knew what he was doing...

Also I sold my full length AR15 at a gun show once for about 100 more than I paid for it... I'm really regretting selling it or not immediately replacing it now w/ the prices they are running...

MArlin 336 in .35 Rem. Looked rough, but was a joy to hunt with .
S&W m-28 that had belonged to a Louisiana Highway Patrolman.  It was so accurate and had such a good action that I almost never even tried to fire it single action.
Remington 5mm Magnum.  Traded it for a Savage m-24 in .22LR and 20 gauge.
The Savage m-24.
Sig 230.  Got it for the wife and she could not work the slide, which surprised me, as she is a piano player and they usually have strong hands.
Savage 311.  Owned it for about fifteen minutes at a flea market.  I did not want to sell it, which made the guy who got it from me up his price until I could not say no.   Of course, when he asked me if it would shoot, I told him I had never been disappointed by it.  I always wondered if it was any good.  ;)

There are 3 that quickly come to mind. A Ithaca SKB 100 20 gauge with a straight grip stock. What a great little quail gun it was! The stock began to crack, and I traded it. Wish I would have looked harder for a replacement stock. Also a nice older Mod. 28 S&W. Traded it too. And a nice little M36 S&W with a 3 inch barrel. Also traded. I was a young man with a young family when these things happened. I didn't have the finances to keep guns and just buy more. I would have to sell or trade to help finance the next one. I'm 58 now and the finances are alot better, so I add guns now and rarely sell or trade one. Oh, just thought of another one. One of the first Ruger .44 mag semiauto carbines. Kinda wish I would have kept it too. Oh well!

Mine was a custom 22-250 that I bought in high school (71) for $115. A department store had mis-priced it but honored my layaway when I brought my father in to complete the purchase. This rifle was built on a jeweled Mauser action, Douglas barrel, Timmney Trigger and a beautiful stock with inlays. I traded it for a .22 Colt revolver and a Llama .38 super. I did not have anyway to really use the rifle at the time and could not afford the ammo (like I could for the Super???).

788 Rem in .44 Mag
Western Auto .30-30 Bolt Action Single Shot
Western Auto Bolt Action .410 Shotgun
300 Win Mag Browning BAR
Rem 660 in .350 Rem Mag (Would now be worth about 10 times what I sold it for. Got rid of it because it kicked like a mad mule)

REM 788 in 6mm
REM 700 Mtn Rifle in 25-06
REM 870 Wingmaster w/20" remchoke bbl and iron sights

I'm almost sick over the mtn rifle because it was an older model in exc cond, I thought it kicked too much for the caliber??!! Idiot
The Wingmaster gave a nice cheek weld and shot damn good, but with slugs it would give you a good stinger and I started MZ hunting

Still got the Ruger OA but alway's regreted getting rid of the Buntline.

Browning BL-22 with a Leupold M8 4X scope.

The only gun I've ever sold, 20 years ago after college. I guess I learned my lesson and haven't sold a gun since. I bought the gun used, put the M8 on it from another rifle and squirrel hunted for 3 seasons with it in TX while in college. When I graduated, I sold it to a pawn shop before heading back to FL. I probably miss the scope more than the rifle but the whole package was a nice shooter. I haven't hunted squirrel since either. Of course, I don't have the access to land either like I did in TX.

My problem is my guns are odd to begin with, if I sell one the chance of finding another at a reasonable price is not that great.
I am sure I will not find another Ruger M77VT in 22PPC if I sell mine or a Springffield Linkless in 10mm ect

I wasn't going to even tell my story, downright shamefull.  Aw well, what the hey.
I had a Ruger #1 30-6, bought it new in 1992.  Kept it about a year.
It had one of the finest pieces of walnut I've ever seen.
This gun was accurate.  More so than I am capable of shooting, I suspect...
But I did shoot a 1 inch 5 shot group at 200 yards once when I was trying out a new load.
It was first class all the way.  I was young and somehow got it in my skull I just had to have a .300 win mag, so I sold it.
To this day, I look for it at gun shows.

Mine was over a 35 year period.  Sold some for money because of problems with ex.  Some I traded up.  Some I got tired of and wanted something else or reloading equipment.  I have enough for North America, but would like one more for Africa if the stock market ever comes back up.  x@*! about 25 years ago I  sold my Browning sweet 16 shotgun which had gold engraving. It was either that or the old lady parting with her jewelery to pay the rent. Guess who won.

Last year i sold my S&W model 29 that I had since the 70's to have the money to buy my son a new Rem 1187 so he could have his first new shotgun. I loved that 44 but not nearly as much as i love that boy!

That is the only firearm that I have ever parted with after it was in my possesion

Browning BL-22, a real slick, slim and lightweight beauty that someday would have been a great 1st gun for my 1yr old Grandson. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid ! ! !
