45/70 bbl length.

what is the optimum bbl length for 45/70 on an encore? and who makes the best bbl?

There is no such thing as an "optimum" length, it depends on the use.  I loved my 14" .45-70 Contender, it was the perfect 'hammer' handgun.  My 16" Contender carbine is super handy in tight quarters.  My 34" rollingblock is the best for long range shooting with iron sights.  Ballistically there isn't enough difference to matter between 22" and 30".  What are you going to do with the rifle - that will determine the "optimum" length. 

Excellent custom barrels are made by Bullberry, MGM, OTT, SSK and a few others.

id like to shoot a buffalo, but hogs mostly. mabye some deer, whatever i decide to shoot with it i guess.

Then I'd suggest you choose the barrel length that offers the least compromise when actually hunting.  In tight cover, a 20" barrel would be good to swing around.  For 150 yard shots at buffalo then a 24"-26" tube would hold steadier.  Any velocity loss with the shorter barrel will not be enough to matter in the field....I shot a 9.5-foot brownie with my 20" M98 .45-70 and the bear didn't notice any difference.   ;)
