screwed up (again)
« on: January 29, 2009, 04:43:17 AM »
I saw a deal on Leupold Promotional knives. fixed blade skinner(drop point)
BIG ROCK FIXED BLADE from Americas leader in rifle optics. Made by CAMCO
Nice looking knife, so i ordered 2 one to put away and one to possibly
use, since it is exactly what i like in the shape of a knife.
Every thing looked good until i looked at the end of the box,
you guessed it MADE IN CHINA
A PROMOTIONAL KNIFE by am AMERICAN CO. for an AMERICAN CO.
i almost bit the blade of the one i was looking at, they don't mention this
and me being a dumb@@T did not ask where these "PROMOTIONAL KNIVES"
for an AMERICAN CO.  where made ???
thank you i feel a little better now ::)

With both Schrade and Camillus gone, both of who built a lot of knives for others, that more or less leaves United/Taylor cutlery, and a lot of their stuff is offshore, plus Taylor has a huge bayonet contract.  I expect that durn near any of the non-knife company knives will be offshore stuff.  There's hardly any one left in this country who does that stuff anymore.

Bear is perhaps the largest US knife maker still operating. They are in Jacksonville, AL just a short 6 miles or so from my house. They make quality products and use real American labor to do it.

If I'm not mistaken, some Leupold scopes and binocs are now made in China.
I see lots of "Winchester" marked knives nade in China.
I used to love Beeman air rifles, but many marked Beeman are now Chinese.
BUT IF YOU WANT to look, you can always buy American.
