got my barrel back.
« on: March 07, 2009, 08:24:42 AM »
i sent my encore .204 ruger barrel here, http://www.aquilafirearms.com/RifleOptionsAndComponents/MuzzleBrakes.htm, to get a muzzle brake installed, and the 28" barrel cut down to 26"(not in that order).

they said that if i wanted they would cut the barrel back, but on a fluted barrel it just looks silly.

i shot it today, barely any movement, and 4 shots touching at 100yd.

but its loud, like standing next to a heavy magnum.

i also put the unmentionable spring kit in, and stoned the sears, soooo smooth, great trigger now. BUT i took too much off, so i have a 9oz pull lol. thats scary light for me so im going to order me a new sear.
my camera is not here so ive got no pics, but the 30" bbl doesnt look bad at all.

they started burning cane stubble in the next field so we had to stop shooting, i couldnt retrieve my target.

How is break mounted if screw on that would only leave 7/16" of thread as there is only 1/2" to flutes. Would love to see pictures if possible?

9 oz pull!!!! Man....on a cold day a drop of snot from my nose would set that off. (Yeah...I got a big nose). Nice job with the sear stones....but you need to think about getting out the metal files and roughin up those contact points!!!!  :P

My ProHunter is "stoned" to go off at 3.1lb and for me, that's a bit on the light side. I kind of like 'em around 3.8 to 4.5 for hunting in the cold. That way, when you wrap a numb finger around it...at least you know your touchin something 'afore it goes bang.

BTW...those 204's are accurate as all heck. Loud without the m\B's. I guess you could always wrap some camo duct tape around the M\B if it's gettin under your skin!

I am curious.  Why did you put a muzzle greak on a 204 ruger?  Granted I don't target shoot except to check my barrel before hunting if its been sitting awhile.

ill try to get pics posted tomorrow, the brake all but eliminates muzzle jump, so i can watch the round impact the target(prairie dogs).

i emailed the unnameable, he said to re level the back sear shelf and i would be good. ill try that before sending it to tc for a new sear.
