Well guys, I finally received the Sako 75 Stainless Synthetic in 7mm-08, and it's great. I'll talk more about it in the near future. In fact, I think that it would be helpful to make a new post called "Sako vs. Tikka" in order to provide members (who don't own both) with a relatively indepth perspective on the differences between the two. In any event, the subject of this topic is just the new "Key Concept" that Sako has designed.
As most of you know, companies like Remington have designed a "lock" that is built directly into the bolt. Some people like this for safety reasons, but it appears that the majority of hard-core shooters do not like it. Although I am not aware of all of their reasons, it appears that one of the reasons is that the lock has some kind of affect on the "lock-time" of the firing pin. I don't know if this is true - all I can tell you is what I have heard.
In any event, the Sako concept is similar in principle, but different in design. Specifically, there is a rear part in the back of the bolt that appears can be taken out. I haven't really used it yet, but I do have one complaint.
My complaint is that this part makes a bit of a noise (like a "click" of sorts) when you move the gun up and down. Is it loud? No, but I don't think that a $1,000 rifle should make any noise.
What are your guys thoughts about internal bolt locks in general, and in the Remington and Sako in specific? Do you like them? Hate them? Find them more useful than not? Affect Performance? Etc.?
