For you regular target loads do you use non-diet cans?

Sorry, sorry.

Serious question - out of what do you shoot those?

In an all out effort to read the figures on the top covers of those 35 m/m film cannisters (showing the amount of powder in each) I had to stand on my head and still couldn't be sure of the loads.  From what I CAN read, they look like loads of 25, 50 and 100 grain charges.  Correct DD?
Yeah, OK - that diet Pepsi can will suffice in lieu of the mty powder can for scale. ;D

Yep 100g, 50g and 25g all Cg.  Starting load will be 100g.  I will be shooting at a pond of a couple acres from about 100 yards.  If I am short first shot I will load 100 plus 25. Still short add a 50 to the 100 and so on.

If I am long first shot. I'll load a 25 and a 50 second shot, still long load just a 50.

Here's the pond I have to hit.  Pretty big so the chance of missing is slim. Won't be any splash however it's froze over solid right now.

We used to take the 67.5mm mortar (old style beer can caliber) out on the frozen river - since it was only a foot or two deep there was no worry about falling in if the ice was too thin.  Usually it was 1' to 2'  of ice.

You could feel the effect of firing - the ice would bounce a little as shock waves went out.

It was out of the wind as the banks were 15' high.

AND then the round would get caught in the wind - taking it quite a bit further down river - unless we were firing into the wind - then it would land 50 yards BEHIND us!

Hey, Double D, is that your "special" shooting place? Looks like a good alternate spot for a "Shoot", at least Mortars! Set up an earthen barricade on the other side of the pond, and fire away! Of course, neighbors might complain about the noise! Any extra points for "skipping over the ice"? You know I'm just kidding, right? BoomLover

Jim,

On Hwy 101 south of Port Orford about Half Way to Humbug Park there is a place where the highway goes around a  corner right over the Ocean.  Use to be a big turn out there where you could pull out and and look at the ocean...I have fired my cannon from that parking lot out in to the ocean...some big splashes made there
