Woooohoooooo!!!!
« on: February 22, 2009, 09:54:16 AM »
My C&R license finally came in the mail....and the same week that I found out I'm getting $8,000 back from Uncle Sam.  Most of it's spoken for already but that leaves me $1000 to pick up some long awaited milsurp rifles.  I've already got a K31, 5 Nagants and a Lee Enfield No 4 mk 1 in my shopping cart from various online milsurp dealers.  That will put me a little under the limit.  I might even have enough for a Yugo M24/47!  Just waiting for the ink signed copies of my license to get to the dealers so I can put a nail in the coffin!  I'm going broke saving money!  After these purchases my license will have already paid for itself 8 times!!!!

Enough about me, does anyone else out there have their tax return already spent??? What a stupid question.  A better one would be...WHAT does everyone else out there have the tax return already spent on???

I don't want to pop your balloon, but.........
If you already have a Mosin, there's not much point in a C&R anymore. Most of the dealers are out of about everything now.  I'm going to let mine expire.  The days of cheap sks', enfields are over....I wanted a CZ-82 but for the money the dealers wanted ($220-240+ $30shipping), I could buy a Bersa 380 ($295) or a used Keltec. The CZ was just as much as the Bersa and was in a caliber not easily found.  The Bersa was a better deal.  It has a caliber I can buy anywhere and was about the same price.  There are discounts given at some online gun parts places but I've found the discount is not much of anything to jump up and down about.  I think I got a .20cent per box discount on 7.62 x54r.  That's a let down for sure.  I used mine to buy a couple of Mosins and that was about it.

You will save money with the discounts not on the purchasing of stuff. Brownells, Grafs, Midway, Numrich alone will pay your 10$ a year fee. Then there is the getting it shipped to your door cool factor. Glad for ya. BTW i have to pay taxes every year no free lunch for me.

Congrats on the C&R, I've been toying with the idea of getting an FFL for a while, but I don't quite buy enough guns to make it worth it.

A better one would be...WHAT does everyone else out there have the tax return already spent on???

I nabbed a 700 BDL .270, and a Dan Wesson Bobtail.  ;D Between weather and work I haven't yet had a chance to play with the bobtail... It almost makes me physically itch...

Oh, make no mistake, I have to pay taxes every year too, but I travel for business so SOME of my expenses are deductible.  Out of $20,000 last year I got $8,000 back.  And as for the saving money part I was referring to the $20-$40 FFL transfer fee that I no longer have to pay when buying online because it's being delivered directly to my door rather than to the gun store down the road.  I wish I had this when I bought my 5 C&R pistols back in November.  Could have saved myself atleast $100 possibly sales tax in WA state as well.

Do not let your C&RFFL03 expire just because the military surplus stuff is drying up.  Time to time we may see something new arrive like the CZ82's.  But at the sametime with the C&RFFL03 we get discounts at www.midwayusa.com on ammo and accessories and gun parts.  Plus if we hook up with the right gun shop who wants our business we can get discounts on modern guns too after all when the surplus stuff is drying up all we have is the modern stuff to go after besides the C&R stuff on gunbroker, auction arms and gunsamerica.  I say keep your C&RFFL03 because we still have choices too.  You can still use it at gunshows too.  Some states are getting tough on selling ammo at gun shows too.  We still need our C&RFFL03 for the future until we get something newer like a nation wide CCW permit that we can also purchase any gun in any state.  Right now its silly i'm ok to buy in my home state yet a few miles away in another state i'm in another country its so stupid that i can't buy the modern stuff too.

For many the C&R is a great deal...I just think it has run it's course..

I've used my C&R to buy what I thought was a bargain.  The problem is if anything new hits our shores, which is highly doubtful; it won't be cheap. I got into C&R for the $69 rifles.  That was a bargain in anybody's book.   The CZ-82 are the newest and are really not a bargain in my book.  Yeah, they are a nice pistol and all.  The problem with them is the price.  Once you pay the shipping, you have just as much in it as some good modern pistols.  AS for gunbroker, I have never seen a decent deal there.  I've seen people wanting $200 for a Mosin and $400+ for a Yugo SKS.  I'll pass on GB.

The discount maybe worth it for some.  I just didn't see where the big discount was.  It seems it's only a few cents.  I guess I don't order enough for it to really matter.

I don't have a Mosin yet so I'm going to pick up 5 at $65 each from one of the stores online.  Also, I'm not sure that the statement about cheap sks', enfields etc is completely accurate.  Compared to 5 or 10 years ago you may be right however, compared to what they will be in 5 or 10 more years, I think you may be wrong.  We may have to pay more for them now but if we want them and we get them, we will pay less than we will have to in the future if we want them at that time.  Everything is relative.  I will get the Nagants while they are still cheap and pickup one of each of the others that I mentioned in the original post, then I won't be kicking myself in the butt in 3 or 4 years when they've yet again, doubled in price.

LOL, keep dreaming OF.  I am however on my way.  I picked up 5 Mosins for $65 each and a Yugo M24/47 for $150 from J&G Sales today.  Well I didn't exactly pick them up but the UPS guy will be dropping them off sometime next week!  Now to get that K31 and an Enfield No 4 Mk 1  ;)
