Will it do any damage to use scattershot in a rifled slug barrel?

No but it won't work nery well. It spins the wad and throws a donut shaped pattern. I don't suppose any body has ever shot enough to damage the barrel because it not very effective.

Doesn't work worth beans. A smooth bore barrel is the way to go.Shoots shot, buckshot , and foster type slugs without any problems at all. Will do everything you could ask a shotgun to do within reason.

I also suspect if you have to shoot at a snake close to your feet with a rifled barrel there would be way more of a chance that a piece of shot might hit your toe.

I bought some 22lr shot shells and shot them out of my stevens 22.
Set up a paper plate at 20 ft. and shot.
Not ONE pellet hit the plate.
Between 5-10 ft. in front of me the ground got peppered though
The shot just spins out of the barrel

That's exactly it. The shot follows the rifling and as soon as it leaves the barrel it just scatters.
