How many deer?
« on: January 02, 2009, 04:39:16 AM »
Seasons over.....how did everyone do?  Got 4 does, 1 small buck.  Where are the big guys this year?  Did anyone get any?   Our game cameras proved we had them on our lease, but not anyone saw any to shoot at.

Season's over!?  You got to get some huntin land in the southern zone!  We got till the 15th!   8)

Crazy year for me, only a doe and a fawn so far.  Missed one big buck opening day, don't ask...  :-[ and let some does & small bucks walk, which I'm paying for now in the lack of meat situation in my freezer!

I got a little spot in Harris Co. I'm going to next weekend, but they have started some construction nearby, and I'm not expecting miracles.  I've got the old freezer about 80%, so I could use one or two more.  A buddy gave me some Elk meat as well.  Time to heat up some charcoal.....

Just can't understand the bucks this year though.  Seems they went nocturnal might early.

I shot a nice 8 opening day, a doe at Thanksgiving, and a 1 horned spike CHRISTmas eve(mistaken for a doe), saw small bucks all season. Brother shot a 9 opening day and another at Thanksgiving. A 3.5 yo 8 was killed at dusk on the last day, and only 2 does were killed. I only saw 3 does all season, 1.5yo bucks almost every trip. On a 115 acres in Coweta co.

Still got till the 15th to hunt. First of the season I saw deer everyday but let them walk. When the time changed I could only hunt the weekends and then I didn't see nothing for 3 weeks. Now the only deer I'm seeing is long after legal hunting hours but I still like to sit and see what and when they are coming through. Meat has run out and time is getting short so something is gonna die soon.

How many tags do ya'll get a year?  Here in Montana we were allowed 7 doe/fawn tags and 1 buck/doe/fawn tag this year.  It changes from year to year and area to area.  Our hunting reg. booklet is about as thick as a bible now. :-\  I had a good year here, 6 does and a nice 4x4 mule buck.  DP

I will have to look back at my liscense, but I believe we can kill 12.  Two of which must be bucks, and one of those must have at least 4 points on one side.  In my county, all bucks taken must have at least 4 pts. on each side.  So far "liminting out" has not been a problem for me.  I killed 5 this year, and was given two by others who just wanted to shoot them and did not eat them.

Hey DP!
Yup, it's 12.  But unless I'm mistaken any deer you take from Wildlife Mgmt. Areas (WMA's) or like areas don't count toward that total.  No matter really.  Even as small as the deer are where I hunt it doesn't take 12 to fill my freezer or test my new loads.

Maybe,  :-\  but I'd have to use one of Ranger Rick's 700 some odd grain bullets to insure I got the penetration!   ;D
