Update on Thompson center service
« on: September 12, 2003, 07:41:43 AM »
Sent my 209x45 to Thompson because of the 9" groups at 50 yards. When I called today, they said it arrived on the eight and hadn't been looked at. The lady offered to let me talk to the guys in repair. The first guy I talked to said it usually took 2-3 weeks. He gave me the guy that was going to do the work. He said they had to take repairs first come first serve and it was scheduled to ship back on the 22nd. He said they had about 50 barrels in front of me. I told him that wasn't a surprise from the complaints I was reading on the internet. He said usually about 75% of the barrels they got had nothing wrong with them, was just the people that sent them in. I told him I didn't really want the 209x45 back and if the barrel needed to be replace, I would like a 209x50. He said his supervisor would have to OK that as they usually replace with the same caliber. Me thinks there will be an encore with 2 barrels for sale in the near future. A Knight 50 caliber and a 700 Remington is looking real good right now :(  Don

That is really too bad  .  I had fantastic service when I sent back my 7m-08 barrel.  From the day I sent it out, I received a new barrel in a week and a half.  This included the Labor Day weekend.  The gunsmith I talked to name was Ron.  He also ckd out my barrel and got the new one shipped out.  Everything was great.  Although he did say that it was really getting to be the busy time of year.  Next to RCBS, Thompson was the easiest company I have ever dealt with.

The people I talked to were fairly nice but with 50 barrels ahead of me, I guess they can only do so much. One would think they either need to make better barrels or hire more repair people  . Don
