Do you ride in cold weather?
« on: February 02, 2009, 12:05:43 PM »
I ride my 94 Goldwing back and forth to work when it isn't snowing or raining.   If the temp goes below the mid teens the wing gets kind of cranky to start.  This morning I left for work at about 5:40 and it was 19 degrees and the bike was a little testy to keep running from a standing start until the engine warmed for a few minutes.  Its only 7 mi. each way but if it didn't have the windscreen and fairing I don't think I could stand the cold air blast.   Dangit, I bought the thing to ride, and I am a cheapskate and don't like to feed my 4X4.   How about the rest of you street riders?

Once upon a time, all I had was my bike and if I wanted to make it to work I rode, rain, shine, hot or cold. I didn't have a windsheild but wore a helmet when the weather turned sour. Now that I'm older and can afford it I will drive my truck when it gets nasty out.

Cold is a relative term. I ride at 40 degrees and up. Once I rode at 26 degrees. The Harley did not like it, I did not like it. March is coming soon. With some luck, some nice riding weather in March.

I ride in cold only long enough to get oil through motor then park it at least once week! Other than some of the early spring cold snaps that come unexpected!

Not embarrassed to say I'm a 100% fair-weather rider.  No wet or cold for me.  Wosrt for me is cold hands.  Hate buly gloves and not intereste din heated grips so unless it fairly warm and dry, I'll take the truck.

Yep that looks pretty cold there.  I used to but blood thinners make it rough to keep my fingers and toes from going numb, As a younger man it was not a problem, but then again alot of things were easier before I smashed a few mussles broke a few bones fell off a bike or 10 ya know litlle things add up over the years. ;D

Sometimes I do, it just depends on my mood.  I think the coldest weather I've ever ridden in was 18 degrees.  I had ice on my face mask when I got to work.  I won't ride a bike with a windshield or fairing.

I have rode when it was in the twenties but no more. Now Saturday here it is predicted 70's so guess what guys a little winter riding is in store for this ole boy.  Sunday is the annual Candy Ass run in OKC but the 70's are still in store for that day also.

I rode yesterday. It was 19deg when I left. It did warm up to the high 20s by lunch. This morning it was rainning but about 34deg. I drove the car. I don't like rain. Regards

Ok took off after work on friday  it was 72 so on the bike we cimbed for a evening of entertainment, left the restuarant it was 56 but we had on the leather jackets, so off to the local Elk's lodge for a little pool and a beer. Three hours later we climb on the bike to head home. Damn the OL was freezin her nubs off and burying head into my hoody hood. I noticed the wind had a hell of a bite but heck could not stop so onward I went full speed +  toward the house. As I pass the Walgreens the sign says 30 degrees. The OL wanted to know what was I thinking hauling her around in weather like that. :D

It has to be at least 45degrees for me but with temperatures on the upswing. Trouble is that I am out in the sticks and cant really go anywhere if the temperatures stabilize there. The City boy's to the east & west of me can go a long ways at the relatively low speeds of 35-45mph and get a lot more riding in at the end or beginning of the season.

Used to ride just about year round. My old Goldwing has a Webber 2 barrel on it with no choke so it don't like temps below about 40 I don't either . So now due to stubborness . No I don't ride in cold anymore.
Put a lot of miles on my old 750 Hon chopper in the late 70's and early 80's The 81 Interstate racked up many winter miles.
