Sights for a Marlin 1894

Just bought a nice 1894 two weeks ago and finally got it to the range. This is one sweet gun. Probably the last one I will ever need. The problem that I have is due to eyesight my groups tend to open up when shooting at over 50 yards. I don't plan on shooting anything over 100 to 125 yards so should I be looking for a peep sight or a 4x scope? The ammo that I used so far is 240 grain Winchester sjsp and 240 grain Fiocchi sjsp and they shoot great.
Also my brother is telling me that if I use a 300 grain bullet I should be able to use this rifle on a buffalo hunt that I am planning in a couple of years. If I keep my shots to 50 yards is this possible?

Not a fan of peeps on a carbine. Rifle though.......

I put one of these on my 44 mag and I love it. I had gone away from iron sights due to "age" but this peep brought me back. I shot a 2 " group with it after sight in at 100 yards!

Installed a Lyman #2 tang sight,worth the drilling and taping and looks good with the gun.

I shoot a marlin 94c Cowboy for Pistol Cartridge Rifle Silhouette.  I am 60 years old and wear bifocals and have bad eyes. 

I use a Williams Receiver sight and shoot targets off hand at 100 meters all the time.  Marbles makes a good tang sight also.  Both are adjustable for windage and elevation and are rugged enough for hunting.  Both come with 2 or three apertures of different sizes and if the front sight is blurry, just go to a smaller aperture. 

Mounting a scope on a lever action has never appealed to me.  I have done it but I don't like to.  It takes away some of the reasons for having a lever carbine.  A scope screws up the balance and makes it hard to carry with one hand.  A tang or receiver sight will not ruin the appearance or the portability of the gun.  You can still bang it around and not loose the zero and they are very accurate.  With a little practice you can shoot the same size groups at 100 yards as you do with a scope.

I have several of the 2.5 power Weavers on my levers, same problem with old eyes.  A peep sight helps tighten groups up, but slower to get on target than low powered scope or Red Dot sight.  Some of the red dots are very small and don't get in the way, faster than a peep for me.  DP
