New York Pistol Permit $$$$
« on: September 02, 2003, 07:33:38 AM »
A friend of mine stopped by here in June wanting me to sign his papers for his permit.  He told me that the cost of a New York pistol permit was going up to $50.00 per year after August of this year . This State already sucks as far as getting a permit as it is let alone this increase ,that is if this is true. If anyone can shed some light on this subject it would be appreciated. Also can't believe the hassle our Penn. neighbors go threw to get a New York Permit, whereas it takes 25.00 your New York permit and about 10 minutes to get a Penn. Permit.

Yeah, tell me about it!! I live just over the border in PA but work in New York. From what Ive heard its right next to impossible for a nonresident of new york to get a new york permit. I have a PA permit but havent even tried to get a Permit in NY for that reason. All I can tell ya is you all need to get that sob Shumer out of office and you would be a lot better off, oh yeah and Hillary too.

When I lived in NY from 1979-1990 it was illegal for a non resident to possess a handgun in NY for any reason.

$$ for NY Permits
« Reply #3 on: September 02, 2003, 09:15:33 AM »
WildBill - I haven't heard a thing about that.  There certainly hasn't been anything in the news or the newspapers about that and no pending legislation that I am aware of (and I keep current) about having to renew your NY pistol permit every year.  Are you sure they weren't talking about hunting licenses or hunting permits?

Right now your Pistol Permit is good for life, unless you screw up and the licensing judge in your county takes it away from you.  Again, I have not heard anything about either having to renew your permit annually or about anyone requiring an annual fee.

IN FACT, I just, as in right this minute, called my licesning judge's office and asked if there was any requirement, either in place or in the works, to require an annual renewal or fee for pistol permits and was told - NO!

The only place in New York State, she said, that requires any form of renewal or fee is in the New York City area, including Westchester County, that requires a renewal every five years and she felt the only reason they did that down there was because they knew they could get more money from those folks than they could up here.

Geez WildBill, fer a minoot ya'll almos made me sweat.  Mikey.

You haven't heard anything yet.

In Nassau County (NY) it cost about $200 for a Pistol Permit. This includes your psychological check, fingerprint check, paperwork and what ever else they feel like charging you for. Not positive about the $200 but I'm in the ball park. You must also provide your own 1.5"x1.5" photos.
Renewals are also quite expensive and had recently taken a big jump in fee. The county singled out the shooting public to help reduce their enormous debt. There were no other across the board increases that mirrored the pistol license fees.
If I remember correctly, under NYS Law, only Nassau County, NYC and maybe Suffolk County can lawfully demand regular renewals and exhorbitent fees. Gee thats fair; isn't it?

Sounds more like Kalifornia

I've heard over the last few years the same rumor about an annual fee.Its just a rumor. Also the anti's would love this, alot of people wouldn't pay a yearly fee for what? what does the state offer. Its a shall issue in ny if you dont have any record or mental problems,i believe.Doesnt that make it a right and not a privledge?

Hillary and Schumer...These are the folks that represent your state to the rest of us in this great nation.  Think about that...  Even worse than Kennedy and Kerry...  take the state back or leave, the only answers for decent folks and shooters/sportsmen there.

Let's Split Upstate and Downstate
« Reply #7 on: September 03, 2003, 03:35:09 AM »
Folks:  for a while I have advocated that it is time for another revolution and this time I think I might be able to pinpoint a a successful advance to this idea.

Let's split the state into Upstate New York and Downstate New York.  Let's make the divide from the Westchester County line to New Jersey.  Everything else would be upstate.  In Upstate NY, all Consitutional freedoms and restrictions against governmental interference would be law.  In Downstate NY, all Consitutional freedoms would become restrictions upon social activity.

In Upstate you could breathe the air freely - in downstate there would be an Air Tax, and a tax on everything else you would normally do, including voting.  Downstaters could turn New York City into a free port and the city and surrounding environs would then be subject to international law and become self supporting.  It would pay into the tax coffers of the US, thereby helping reduce our upstate tax burden.

Actually, it is possible that Downstate or NYC would become an oligarchial anarchy or neo-communist state.  We could name it the People's Democraptic Republic of Neu Yawk and keep the name of New York State for upstate.  We Upstaters would elect our own representatives to the Senate and the PDRONY would be left with snail slime (hillary and schoomer).  We would have better air, better schools, safer streets, less crime, less political hoopla and more rights.

Whatcha think?  Mikey.

As bad as NY was when I lived there, at least I had a pistol carry permit without restrictions.  In my current state of Illinois there is no such thing as a carry permit and we can only handgun hunt for deer for three days in the middle of January (antlerless only to boot!).

Makes me miss NY!

When my in-laws lived in Nassau County, I looked into obtaining a non-resident permit...NOT A CHANCE!   My father-in-law would tell me that in order to even handle a handgun at a shop on the island, you needed to show your "permit to own".  Funny thing about this is that one day I went w/ him to his usual gun store.  Looked around and I started talking with a clerk there.  He was so impressed about gun laws here in ME and interested in some of the shoots here that he told me "anything you want to see or check out, just let me know".  Gave him a few contacts in this area for items not readily avail. there too. I didn't purchase anything but because of him, I'll visit there again.

What does a non-resident have to do besides get a license to hunt deer in upstate NY with either a rifle or handgun?

Check www.scopeny.org 's website on a regular basis.
They  keep you informed asto the various shenanigans being foisted[or attempts] in New York.
SCOPE has also done a lot more to  actually protect the shooter in the state[e.g. take judges to court re handgun permits]-forget  the NRA.
