357/9mm

Just brought home the newest addition to the family, new model Blackhawk 357 with the fact. 9mm cylinder and 4 5/8" barrel.  Poor thing sat in the case for a couple of months and no one wanted her, course she was hidden behind a fancy Vaquero.  Trigger is heavy, but let-off is crisp, no creep so I think some spring changing will work out well.  I think a set of the black grips instead of the wood ones will fit my hand better.  OTD for $449.95 which is less than they charge for the new ones coming in now.  That sound about right for a new one around the country?  DP

It's been my experience that the 357/9mm Rugers have been hard to find.  In light of that, I think your price is very fair for one in good to excellent condition.  It's great if you have a lot of inexpensive 9mm ammo around.  It 'may' not shoot as well with the 9mm cylinder as with the .357, some shoot the 9mm well and others do not.  Not the fault of the gun, just the fact that .357 mag/38 spl bullets are .357 diameter while the 9mm bullets are only .355. 
I once owned a .357 Ruger that I thought had lost it accuracy; it went from 2" groups to 4".  Then I learned that my friend who reloaded .357's for me had gotten a buy on 9mm bullets and had loaded some in the .357 cases.  It still had good accuracy, just not as good as with .357 bullets.  44 Man

That has been my experience with the 9mm cyl too. Doesn't shoot worth crap. I didn't actually buy it, the store owner that ordered it for me made a mistake and he was very good about it. If I didn't reload I suppose it would be nice to have because there will always be gobs of 9mm stuff around if times get bad.

I would like to get one, One of thease days mostly cuz I like Blackhawks and don't have one of those, I guess I'll just have to enjoy my .357 maximums and .44 till then. 8)

 Got plenty of .357 BH's but just one convertable with a 9mm cylindfr and that's an unconverted OM.  Never even shot the thing yet.  Gonna be a project base.

That was a new one, out of Shiptons Big R here in Billngs MT.  I didn't think the 9mm would do to good with the jacketed due to the size, but might with soft lead.  May not ever use it, but got it.  Will use the 357 for sure, gonna be fun seeing if this one is as accurate as my GP100.  DP

I`ve been keeping an eye out for one of them too, but I want a 3 screw and if I ever find one it will probly be out of my price range.  :'(

I've got two of them, one in each barrel length. They both shoot the 9mm pretty darn good. Jacketed bullets work the best, even the cheap Russian stuff shoots well. I'm sure glad I bought them.

I had a 4 5/8" Ruger convertable back in the '70s.  With most surplus 9mm with the 115-124 RN jacketed bullets accuracy was not great but wasn't bad either.  I quicly found that cast 9mm bullets like 356404 an 356242 shot very well indeed even when sized .356.  I got some commercial cast 130 gr bullets similar to 356634 sized .357 and they shot every bit as good as any .359 sized bullet in Magnum cases.  My notes also show the 115 gr Hornady HP with a long bearing surface as shooting as well at 1269 fps (I had an Oehler M10 with skyscreens back then) as any .357 magnum load.  My eyes were better back then and my notes show these loads were running 1- 1.5" 6 shot groups at 25 yards from a rest I had made (I still have and use the rest). In the .357 Magnum case that revilver would shoot 1" 6 shot groups with 358156 cast of WWs and sized .359 over 15 gr of H110 at 1210 fps. 

That was my standard Magnum load for it. Unfortuneately I traded it off for something. Don't remember what I traded it off for but I do remember that revolver.  I guess that says something for it.

I took it out yesterday and shot it with the 357 cylinder only.  Was using my handloads and after getting the sights an inch high at 25yd I was able to hit head sized rocks at over 100 yd.  If I hadn't had 2 pots of coffee, could have done better ;D but am happy with this as the first outing.  I will be replacing the grips, don't like the wood Ruger grips at all.  DP
