.357 barrel

The old .357's had throat problems & seemed to olny like heavy bullets. A lot of them were converted to .357 Maximum & .357 Herrett. Are the new barrels better?

Mine shoots 158 gr. SJSPs and SJHPs very well.  It's a year and a half old extractor.  The 125s didn't seem to do as well.

I have an older ejector and 2 of the newer extractor barrels.  I don't shoot anything lighter that 158's but all 3 barrels shoot them just fine, good enough they have taken turkeys.  I have some 180 XTP's to load when it's time to do so, last time I loaded I did 500 rounds.  That takes along time on a single stage press!  I only shoot targets to sight em in, then go to some thing that moves when hit like dirt clods, rocks or pop bottles (plastic) and we always clean up our mess.  We go shoot at a local area that is BLM, and the mess there just really makes me furious.  We will loose it if people don't clean up their own crap.  The shot gunners are the worst, always shot gun hulls all over the place.  The ones we shoot at, we pick up when we clean up.  DP

I've got an older model ejector barrel in .357 that I reamed to max.

I've only shot the 180 grain XTP's in the .357 max, and it shoots an inch at 100 yards.

Trying to get ready for turkey hunting, I loaded some .357 mag ammo yesterday using the 180 grain XTP's, and I shot it today at 80 yards, and it shot a five shot 1 1/2" group, but I'm sure I pulled one shot, and it should have been better than that!

Long throat or not, my barrel shot really well before I reamed it, and it still shoots good, but just a tad better since I reamed it.

BTW I only shot 5 rounds, and maybe I'm peranoid but with the way it's been getting harder to get primers and such, I'm more frugal about blasting away my ammo, when I know it's sighted in.

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.
