I am SO FRUSTRATED with Taurus
« on: March 10, 2009, 09:23:33 AM »
I work at a small gun shop. We bought two of the Taurus Model 94 UltraLite .22 caliber revolvers. Both of them catch when dry-firing them right handed if you pull the trigger the slightest bit to the right. The trigger locks up and won't come back until you release the pressure and let the hammer and trigger go completely forward again. The problem doesn't occur if you are dry firing the gun left handed.
We sent them back to Taurus to have them fixed. They returned them to us, said they had modified or replaced some parts and all was well.
The problem is exactly the same so we returned them again. They returned them again saying again that they had replaced some stuff and modified some stuff.
We have now sent the guns back to Taurus for a total of four times to try to get a problem fixed on two brand new guns that have never seen a live round yet.
IF they fix the guns and we can sell them, we'll never stock Taurus revolvers again. We've spent a lot of money on shipping on two guns just to make them so we feel comfortable selling them. We don't want to sell a gun that we know has a problem. I can't believe how poor their customer service is either.
They keep blowing smoke up our butts telling us that they've fixed stuff when nothing has changed with the problem. We've even had customers test the guns here in the shop with dry fire to make sure that it wasn't just us and the guns lock up for them too.
What a P.O.S.
The revolvers are now on their way back to Taurus for a FIFTH time. I requested that they please just replace the guns if they can't fix them, which they apparently can't. I guess me next step will be to contact the Better Business Bureau unless someone else has a better suggestion for me to try to get Taurus' attention. Thanks

So your saying that the trigger binds up only when pulling/squeezing the trigger with the right hand?  Now are you using just the tip of your finger when pulling the trigger back?  It does sound like someithing is binding up on the right side of the internals when pulling the trigger where it is not when using the left.  I had a S&W that did this one time, took the side plate off, and found an obstruction that was causing the problem.

The problem only shows itself when pulling the trigger right-handed.  I have large hands and when I put the tip of my finger on the trigger, I am pulling back and slightly to the right.  I have explained to them that it doesn't show up left handed or for smaller-handed right-hand shooters.  I have tried to be very descriptive in telling them what the problem is.  I could probably sell the gun to a small-handed person or a leftie but I won't sell a gun that I know has problems...unless I tell them about the problem and they still want it...which nobody has yet.

Don't dry fire a rimfire handgun.

I do at least a cursory function test an any gun that we sell.  The gun came with a round plastic thingy (?) that covers the cylinder so you can dry fire without risking damage to the firing pin.
By the way, there was a recent test in Gun Test Magazine or one of the other gun mags where the author dry-fired several rimfires several thousand times each and could find no damage to any of them.  I've always been told not to dry fire rimfires but the test said it was okay.  I still use snap caps or the plastic insert thingy when dry firing someone else's gun, such as one that we're going to sell.

Taurus CS

Back in 12/07 I bought a raging bull 45lc, as NIB. And it was NEW. Actually it was manufactured in 97' according to Taurus website.
The trigger is incredibly smooth, and an easy pull. I am shooting heavy loads with a 310gn Keith style semi custom mold.
My friend has a Taurus Judge that shoots very well for anything with a 2-2.5" bbl, his sister bought a new Judge on his reccomendations. It had to be sent back with a small timing problem. It took a little while longer to get it back than expected, but it is shooting very good now.
These 3 taurus revolvers are shooting much better than a S&W 629 I had. And Taurus' CS has also beat S&W cs hands down in my experience.
Based on my own experiences, I will never have another S&W product again.
Just a flip side of GB's coin
