another thing to be aware of with the Microfit stocks, when thinking of getting one for a Savage (as i recently was, adn then for this reason passed), is that the Microfit stock in addition to being unfinnished, are also missing the bedding pillars, that are built into just about every OTHER aftermarket Savage stock. these pillars are part of why the Savage is able to be so accurate out of the box, thus unless you're super careful each time you remove and re-attactch the stock AND are damned lucky you're gonna need to either install the pillars yourself or have someone else do it..
so in other words, as nice and pretty as they become when nicely finnished, even if you don't nessisarily HAVE to have a drop in fit, you're MUCH better off going elsewhere. b/c there's alot of work that needs doing on their Savage stocks.
not having a need or desire for a wood stock at the moment i can not give you any direct advice on who to go through. if i did i would.
if you're NOT dead set on wood, the "Stockade" stocks over at
lock stock and barrel are a good option. a little more than the Microfit stocks but from all i've heard MUCH less of a PITA to get mounted right adn they ARE simple drop ins.
