I ve got the encore with 15 in barrel in 7mm-08 (blued).  I am going  to purchase the burris 2x7.  Would a weaver base with burris signature zee rings be a good setup for this pistol or would you  use a burris base with burris rings.

Thank you for your opinions.  looking forward to getting this gun ready before rifle season starts.

Personaly I use the duo-ring set up but would be willing to use the all Burris set up. Leuopold dual dovetails would be a good choice too but kinda spendy. Never did like the Weaver stuff although many do.

I have the Burris bases and rings installed on my only 2 barrels, and love them.  One wears a Burris 3-12x, the other a Bushnell 2x.  Lovely looking bases and rings, and they're not that pricey either (a couple of bucks more than the Weaver style).  If you're going to spend the money on a variable Burris scope, splurge and buy the Burris bases as well, you'll like the way they look and function.  Not a fan of the Weaver-style bases and rings.  Just my 2 cents.
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)

perfect scope choice for the 7-08, in my opinion. i mounted my 15" 7-08 encore(also the 6br) with burris dual dovetails, and burris signature rings with the plastic inserts. it holds good and doesn't put ring marks on that expensive scope. looks pretty good to boot.
i'm also using weaver bases, with burris signature zee's on some of the contenders. they do fine also. i mounted my 30-30 ackley improved/burris 2x7 with a 3 ring redfield mount. if you're into good looks, plus a good solid hold, then that may be an option to look at. one should lap the rings with that type of mount.  :D

Weaver bases SUCK on Encores!  The majority of the base is not in contact with the barrel.  I had more headaches then it was worth.  I finally purchased a set of Leupold QR rings and base and haven't looked back.

I inadvertently purchased a set of Leupold extension rings the other day for a new scope I'm mounting and would recommend them.  You get the farther spacing between rings with also helps to put less of a moment (stress for laymen) on your scope.

Something else I did to prevent my scope from being mared by the rings was to cut some small pieces of a balloon and placed them at the contact points.  I would have used something else, but had nothing handy.  I think I'll replace them with some electrical tape after I use some Goo Gone to remove the glue.

Even better!

I purchased a VVCG machined steel weaver style base. I also use the Burris Signiture rings which have plastic inserts that align the scope tube in the rings. They also eliminate scratching the scope tube. Works great when slipping the scope back and forth to set eye relief and leveling the crosshairs during scope installation.

I concur with jscabolt regarding the QR base and rings. Take the scope & rings off, put back on and zero is still perfect.
