45-70 Buffalo Classic Modifications
« on: March 05, 2009, 03:23:25 AM »
Hey guys,

I am contemplating on buying one of these in 45-70.  I was wondering, would it be possible to exchange the non-padded stock that comes on these with a regular, vented pad stock that comes on the standard 22" models? I could imagine the longer barrel will increase weight and decrease recoil a little bit.

Thanks!

Also have one of these with the same complaint. The stocks from any other will fit. I am going to get a rear stock from the H&R Trap and change the pad on it. The wood on this model appears to be a good match to the B.C.

I purchised a lace-up recoil pad from Cabelas, fit was good and looks were no bad,I did not think any other pads would fit the BC.

I think the stock off of the Topper Deluxe Classic is a good substitution. It is walnut, checkered and a good match for the forearm.  It has a recoil pad.

Another option would be to cut and fit a grind to fit recoil pad on it.

Do you have the direct link to Cabelas for this?

45 total, that includes two BCs and two Targets. TDC = Topper Deluxe Classic, not all of the checkered walnut stocks are as nice as that one, I have one on my 44mag that is very plain in comparison, small grind-to-fit Limbsaver.

Thanks,

Tim

I like the checkered fluted-comb select American Walnut Co trap stock on the newer Topper Trap Gun (TTG).
No response from H&R on my request for TTG stock price/availability yet - (wrong/old mail address?).
TDC looks good too.

The old email address is no longer valid for Ilion or Madison, you have to call them, phone number is the same, (866)776-9292 toll free. The Topper Trap butt is part #S04116 $58.70, forend is #S04117 $32.85.  ;)
