I was looking at:

VINTAGE FINNISH PUUKKO HUNTING SKINNING KNIFE KNIVES GC Item number: 270332476677

It has 3 days to go, current bid is at 10.95
Would you mind taking a look at it for me?

Irs, I looked at the knife you're talking about. It's an old advertsing fishing knife. Good knife, but the blade is very thin, like the Rapala fillet knives they sell at Walmart. Not a hunting knife or heavy duty tool.

The knife I've been using for many years now is at Ragnars ragweed forge, under Finish knives, number 8224 classic utility knife. This is a very rugged knife that will stand up to about anything you through at it.

The other knife I us alot is the Swedish Mora number 1. I bought htis one to keep in the glove box of y truck, and it's become my go-to knife. I love it because I've used the heck out of it like I didn't care about it because it was only 10 dollars, but its absorbed harsh use like a sponge. I took the plastic sheath and madea leather sheath over it, using the plastic one as a liner. Now Ragnar offers a leather sheath for it. If I had to do it all over again, I'd have bought two or three of the Frosts #1 and stayed with them. They cut like nobodys buisness. For 10 bucks, you can buy one for your pack, one for the glove box, and one for a spare. terrific knives!!!

A mora number 1 and a small hatchet will take care of anything you have to do in the wilderness. My 3 1/2 inch Jarvenpaa has dressed deer, done a zillion camp chores, and like the Frosts mora number 1, stood up to hard use for many years.

The puuko's cured me of expensive cutlery.

I know what you guys are saying about finger guards not being completely needed, but I'm clumbsy.  Especially when I'm field dressing a deer I'm even more clumbsy with wet hands.  All my field knives have a finger guard because it works better for me.  I really like that for about $10 I have a new knife that's sharp as heck and has a bright colored handle that's easy to find.

I've bought other knives hoping for the best, like the Savage Hunter Edge fixed blade and for whatever reason I just don't like it now.  http://savagearms.geigerstores.com/simplemerce/storeitem.jsp?vid=20070716001&iid=21199&cid=7580&pcid=1&lang=0.  I'll probably sell that on ebay fairly soon.

Teddy
I can see what you mean, by looking at that Savage, that is a fearsome
looking knife, man it looks like they tried to put all on one knife.
That is what i call a "blivit" 5lbs of crap in a 2lb. bag.

The large Bowies are weapons, not tools.

A small knive is better for dressing game and a hatchet is better for chopping wood. The Bowie was designed to be a fighting knife, a sidearm back before Sam Colt started producing his revolvers.

I've got at least 7 of the Frosts and KJ Erikkson knives, and I LOVE them all.  I've got a couple of the Clipper Models, the Swedish Army one, and the KJ knives that I think they call the Canoe model or something (those are stainless blades).  I've also got a couple of the fish knives (not the thin fillet knives) and the large camp knife.  They stay sharp forever and they are easy to re-sharpen.  I'd recommend them to anyone.
