Finally got my Omega Shooting Decent Groups
« on: December 19, 2009, 07:20:23 AM »
Several years ago my wife bought me an Omega for Christmas.  I had sighted in a buddy's Omega and was so impressed, I thought I'd ask for one for Christmas...my bride is very good to me.

Anyway, my buddy's gun drives home 1-1.5" groups at 100 yards....my new Omega, all over the place.  As great as 9" at 100 yards.  After a bunch of attempts to improve the beast, I gave up and used my reliable old Staghorn...it does not have a scope, but with peeps, it's a 1-2" grouper at 100 yards!

So, I got some advice from several Omega shooters on how I might improve my gun's groups.  1)  shim the front locking bolt (moving the barrel up a tad at the nose.  2)  sand down the sides of the stock (where it actually touched the barrel north of the front locking bolt.

I did these and low and behold, I do not have to sell the Omega.  In fact, I'm taking it out today.  I just need to keep the gun rested at or behind the front locking bolt.

Here's a pic of the improved groups.  I can live with this as I really did not work very hard for a tighter group.  I can get better on a calm day and more solid rest...but heck, hunting is not "perfect conditions".

Hey Jim,
It was work, but as you can imagine, it's fun too.  I just wish that "big-un" would come by!!  I saw 13 deer this afternoon....two small bucks and the rest doe...some NICE fat doe though.

Good luck with that Bob. I went empty this year. Hunting on private land in the southeast of Mich is a challange to get anything, at least in my experience.

Jim,
It was pretty quiet last night...not a deer to be seen...then right at sunset, about 50 yards to the northwest a big loud GRUNT...then a fight (of course just out of view in the timber)...that made my day.  Did not see anything, but the imagination works overtime when you hear such noises!!
