what model of marlin 336 was it ?
« on: March 08, 2009, 06:58:55 AM »
Back in the late 80's or early 90's i bought a marlin 30/30 at our local k-mart store . it was a special run gun, i've never seen another one. 18 1/2" barrel , 2/3 magazine . i kept it for several years and traded it ( like an idiot ) for something else .  what model 336 was that gun ?  i'd love to find another one .

thanks

More than likely it was a Glenfield made by marlin. a cheaper gun and was sold by k-mart, sears as well as some other discount stores and sporting good stores. as you say barrel was a little shorter and did not come with a walnut stock, just hard wood and most had a gold trigger. I see one at the gun shows from time to time. Saw on at our local pawn shop ,owner thought he had picked up a rare and expensive marlin till I explained that it was a much cheaper version of a marlin made to sell at discount stores.

The odd thing around here is the Glenfield models sell for about the same price as the 336s in the same condition.  Gun shops had Glenfields as well back in the day.  Other than the trim differences, and a matte finish on most of the metal instead of polished and blued, they seem to have been built to the same specs and the more expensive (new) Marlins.  They hunt great!

Minker, did it have a straight stock and a square lever? If so what you are describing sounds like a 30tk. The tk stands for Texan Kmart. They were made round bout that time. I have on myself and they sure are sweet little rifles. They don't say 336 on them anywhere but they are evermore the proverbial 336.

brianscott12 , thats it . i remember now it didn't say 336 and that is what it was 30tk . 18 1/2" , straight stock , 2/3 or 3/4 magazine not sure which that would be considered at that length  . don't remember if it had a square lever but thats the gun .  thanks for your help figuring out what it was.

I bought one last year.  One look and I had to have it for the same reason as everyone else; it's just SO cute!   ;)   Killed a deer with it this year so it's in the back of the safe for a while.  But I got some 110 gr (?) plinker bullets I'm gonna try in it just so I have an excuse to carry it around!   ;D
