22 Hornet twist

Not wanting to highjack LT's post anymore than I already have ...I will start this one. About the 225 rechamber my 225 was done on a fluted 223 24"1-9 twist .I have it shooting very well and the brass even though mine is all vintage superX is readily availible.I have been thinking of doing one to my SS 22" 223 standard contour bbl.I have always had the Hornet in the back of my mind . I have a Model 157 Mannlicher Hornet that I bought for parts only to find that it is a tack driver so I cleaned it up and put a Vintage Weaver 3-8 scope on it and shoot it.But when we were talking 1-12 and 1-14 I got curious and went to check the twist on my Hornet having always thought it was a 1-12. It is in fact a 1-16 yes a 1-16 like the rimfires "that needs to go into the bbl twist facts". Problem with doing a rechamber on it is the fact that it is a color case hardened frame way more than likely low pressure. I would be very surprised if it fit any of my SB2 frames and I will not butcher it to fit . So now I wonder still did they make something other than the 22-250 in a 1-14? Also My old Hornet has a very odd H&R ser # BB49xxxxx so am not sure what the yr is Remington has no info and the Old Nef would not discuss anything with it. One theory I have is it was a frame left from the H&R to NEF switch?? Kurt

Thanks Kurt, I added your discovery to the FAQs twist list, I suspect there are other exceptions to the older H&R products, they may have ran out of 1:12" blanks and used the 1:16" 22Lr blanks instead, or all the older 22 Hornets were 1:16" and no one checked. The BB is also a new one, unfortunately, I doubt we'll ever find out what the facts are on it with Gardner gone, you might call Madison and see what barrels can be fitted to it if you want to waste the time on the phone, but let me check first, maybe I can find something on it.

With a 1 in 16 it would be a great one to do as a 218 Bee , the twist is right and the chamber would clean up well .

I also have an older H&R Hornet.  It's an AK serial number and has the 1:16" barrel.

According to one of the Gardner H&R employees, the BB prefix isn't on his list either, his list is the same as our FAQs, he agrees that it's likely one of the transition firearms made during the change over to HR1871.

Thanks Tim . I agree Stimpy the 218 could be a possibility but I think I'll wait and see what else I can make it do this spring in the Hornet and a 1-16 twist. Kurt
