Question on Max powder charge with a light projectile.
« on: March 13, 2009, 02:20:38 PM »
Looking for help.
As I understand it the max powder charge for my 2 1/4 bore is 3oz. firing blank.  I have very light nerf balls to use for compression.  The nerf balls are 2 5/8 dia. so they are a very tight fit and must be rammed in.  Would the tight fit of these foam balls be a danger as in too much restriction.

Thank you,

Russell

You are using real nerf balls or the styrofoam balls?

They are not styrofoam. They are very light squishy foam which I believe would be considered nerf. They are still intact after firing.

Very tight......?thats kind of subjective . I wouldnt think there'd be any problems . PROVIDING your cannon is of a strong design .

YMMV rocklockI

If you are shooting foam nerf balls, consider them nothing more than over powder wads.

A couple of corrogated cardboard disks work just as well, and are pretty much free. They make the boom factor more consistant than just powder alone.

Soak them in baking soda / water solution and dry before firing, so you don't light yer wife's garden on fire... or something along the same lines, not that I would know anything about that  ;)

The white posts hold up the fence around what "some people" claim was a tomato garden.

It was the second time I ever shot it.

The first time... 15 minute earlier, I put a two foot fuse into it and my kid and I ran behind the house and hid, so I hade no idea what the muzzle blast looked like.

Other than some smoldering garden mulch extinguished quickly with a hose everything survived.
